Close collaboration within the deck department, with opportunities to lead and mentor junior Sailors as you progress. Work Environment: Assignments on surface ships and at shore installations within the United States and internationally. Work on decks, piers, in small boats, and on flight decks, navigating various sea states and weather conditions. Engage in a physically demanding maritime environment with stringent safety protocols and teamwork. Advancement based on performance, time in rate, required qualification completion, and advancement exams, with a strong history of promotion for qualified Sailors. Enlist directly as a Seamanship Specialist and attend BM A School after Recruit Training, contingent on current classification and manning needs. Qualifications: All Navy roles necessitate meeting general enlistment or commissioning standards, including eligibility to serve in the Navy, which typically involves U.S. citizenship or evidence of legal residency and work status. A high school diploma or equivalent for enlisted positions; a bachelor's or qualifying professional degree for officer roles. Must meet age limits set by program and Navy policy, with varying restrictiveness among communities. Eligibility for a security clearance as required for the rating or designator. Additional qualifications: Physical strength and stamina necessary to work safely in an outdoor maritime environment, often dealing with repetitive tasks, ladders, and heavy loads. Ability to work effectively in a team, follow strict safety protocols, and communicate clearly in a shipboard setting. Education: Education benefits are available through standard Navy programs such as Tuition Assistance, the Post-9/11 GI Bill, ACE-recommended college credit for Navy training, Navy COOL-funded certifications, USMAP apprenticeships, and other Navy College Program opportunities. Specific options rely on the Sailor's status, training, and current Navy policy. Pay, Benefits & Service: Pay, benefits, and service commitments conform to standard Navy Active or Reserve policies for this role, including basic pay, any applicable allowances, health coverage, and retirement options. Specific entitlements, special pay, and service obligations depend on program, component, years of service, and current law and Navy guidelines. Incentives: Incentives like bonuses, special pays, and loan repayment options may be available for specific ratings or communities. However, these offerings change frequently and cannot be guaranteed. Applicants are advised to check with an official Navy recruiter for current incentives and eligibility criteria.
