Description The U.S. Navy's Service Management, Integration, and Transport (SMIT) program is seeking a skilled Automation and Orchestration Engineer specializing in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE). This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a high-visibility DoD program supporting the Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI), the largest IT network globally. Primary Responsibilities: As part of your role, you will: Drive continuous development and integration efforts, encompassing site reliability engineering, release management, implementation, migration, and training. SRE Engineering and Integration: Automate routine operations and software updates while documenting various testing procedures. Establish a comprehensive approach for automated acceptance testing and integration/regression testing for new applications and capabilities. Develop and test Ansible playbooks for design and role development across non-production environments and assist in migration to production. Release Management: Contribute to creating and maintaining release management processes, procedures, and policies. Manage and update the overall Release Management Plan and schedule the release activities. Perform site surveys to evaluate existing systems and validate release package requirements. Training & Knowledge Transfer: Create, document, and maintain instructional materials related to Automation and Orchestration procedures. Provide training for significant technological changes as needed. Required Qualifications: BS degree and 4 to 8 years of hands-on experience in site reliability engineering automation; additional experience may substitute for a degree. IAT Level II Baseline Certification. Proficient experience in DevOps, Continuous Delivery (CICD), and Agile methodologies. Active Secret Clearance. U.S. Citizenship required. Ability to support program execution in classified environments and access SIPRNet from an NMCI location on short notice. Strong background in automated scripting languages like bash or python. Proficiency in CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or GitLab. Experience with container technologies like Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes. Familiarity with chaos engineering practices and tools. Solid command of Linux/Unix systems and command line usage. Knowledge in application administration, configuration, and integration. Familiar with Agile development methodologies. Adept at collaborating within distributed teams. Desire to grow knowledge in Agile, DevSecOps, and SRE concepts. Experience with Atlassian products such as Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket. Ability to create JIRA and/or Azure DevOps workflows and configurations. Hands-on experience in administrating SRE platforms via Ansible. Know-how in automating tasks with tools like PowerShell or Python. Expertise in integrating with third-party CI/CD tools. Familiarity with PaaS platforms like Red Hat OpenShift and cloud environments (AWS, Azure). Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation. Understanding of the Risk Management Framework (RMF), DISA STIGs. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Infrastructure as Code tooling for environment automation.
