Job Description

Construction Inspectors M&J Engineering is a leader in construction management and inspection, ITS, mechanical, electrical, wastewater, water supply, tunnel airport, port, marine/coastal, environmental engineering, and design-build services for both new infrastructure projects and renovations. M&J Engineering is seeking Construction Inspectors to support NYSDOT and NYSTA highway and bridge projects, facilities and buildings, rail and transit infrastructure, and municipal capital projects. This field-based role is responsible for monitoring contractor work, verifying compliance with contract documents, applicable codes, safety requirements, and quality standards, while documenting progress and supporting the Resident Engineer with field coordination. Locations available include Lower Hudson Valley, Capital District (Albany), or Syracuse Division (west side) Responsibilities Inspection, Quality and Compliance Inspect and verify construction work for compliance with plans, specifications, NYSDOT and NYSTA standards, applicable codes, and environmental, quality, and safety standards Observe construction activities across one or more of the following Highway and bridge work including earthwork, drainage, concrete, steel, utilities, and MPT Buildings and facilities including architectural, structural, MEP, and renovations Rail and transit projects including trackwork, platforms, facilities, utilities, and yards Identify nonconforming work and coordinate corrective actions Documentation and Contract Support Prepare daily inspection reports, photographs, and progress documentation Measure, calculate, and verify quantities for materials installed, delivered, or stored Witness and document required materials testing Review and process project documentation including submittals and RFIs Assist with meeting minutes, issue tracking, and field documentation Coordination and Safety Coordinate with the Resident Engineer, project staff, contractors, NYSDOT and NYSTA representatives, rail owners, municipalities, and agencies Participate in coordination meetings and follow up on action items Monitor jobsite safety including OSHA, DOT requirements, MPT, and promote compliance with PPE and safety protocols Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering Technology, or related field OR High School Diploma and a NICET Level I Preferred Requirements NICET Level II or higher ACI, NETTCP, ATSSA certifications OSHA 10 Hour or 30 Hour Relevant trade license, project dependent Experience on NYSDOT and NYSTA projects preferred Physical and Working Conditions Ability to work in active construction environments, including uneven terrain, heights, excavations, and varied weather conditions Willingness to work nights, weekends, or off hours for traffic shifts, building shutdowns, or rail outages Benefits M&J is a leader in providing quality engineering consulting services to a diverse and exciting client base.
