Position Objective: Join a dynamic team as a Senior Data Scientist and Biostatistics Specialist, where you will significantly contribute to the mission of advancing health outcomes for underrepresented populations through innovative big data projects. This is a remarkable opportunity to leverage your expertise in data science to tackle health disparities and empower communities. Duties and Responsibilities: Identify and harness big data sources by analyzing secondary data and innovating analytic methodologies to uncover valuable insights. Develop forward-thinking conceptual frameworks and solutions for data science projects, integrating artificial intelligence to enhance our understanding of minority health and health disparities. Utilize advanced big data tools such as Hadoop, Apache Spark, and RapidMiner to interpret complex data sets, revealing key patterns and trends. Analyze and troubleshoot potential issues in data lakes, algorithms, and machine learning models, applying statistical methods to derive actionable insights. Write and optimize scripts and programs for efficient data analysis, ensuring streamlined organization and processing of large data sets. Serve as a bioinformatics resource by collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to drive experimental inquiries using cutting-edge bioinformatics techniques. Develop and maintain vital bioinformatics tools and infrastructure designed to facilitate rigorous scientific data analysis. Generate comprehensive reports from your scientific analyses, sharing findings at relevant conferences and meetings to influence research discussions. Guide and collaborate with scientists in crafting research strategies, managing data effectively, and evolving new computational methods. Engage in trans-NIH initiatives aimed at transforming health disparities and promoting inclusion in data science. Conduct training sessions and provide technical support to staff and collaborators on bioinformatics methodologies and analytical techniques. Support the development of new protocols and assist in managing projects throughout their lifecycle, ensuring successful outcomes. Maintain thorough documentation of all analyses, sharing results with internal teams and external partners for impactful collaboration. Basic Qualifications: Ph.D. in Statistics, Biology, Community and Public Health, or related fields with over 10 years of relevant experience. Deep expertise in Big Data Systems for Health and familiarity with tools like AI, Hadoop, and RapidMiner. Proficiency in statistical analysis software including STATA, SPSS, SAS, and Excel, alongside strong skills in database querying languages. Substantial experience in clinical and translational research, paired with a solid background in data analysis and quality control. Thorough understanding of minority health issues and health disparities. Preferred Qualifications: Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, to effectively articulate complex findings. Detail-oriented approach with outstanding organizational skills, capable of managing multiple projects efficiently.
