Job Description Join our dynamic team as a Grocery Department Assistant Leader where you will play a pivotal role in enhancing customer experiences and driving store success! You will support the Department Manager by assisting with the planning, organization, staffing, training, and direction of Grocery Department associates, while ensuring a safe and ethical environment that embodies our core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety. Responsibilities Support the Department Manager in organizing tasks, addressing staffing needs, training, and scheduling associates to guarantee prompt and courteous customer service. Handle customer and associate inquiries, comments, and complaints with professionalism and calm, ensuring a positive atmosphere. Utilize Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO) to manage inventory levels, ensuring accurate product accounting and reporting in the absence of the Department Manager. Oversee pricing, merchandising, and displaying of products while maintaining proper signage, product freshness, and clean presentation. Engage with associates to enhance merchandising techniques, customer service, and promotional strategies. Uphold company policies and standards in areas such as dress code, grooming, sanitation, and creating a harassment-free workplace. Provide valuable insights to the Department Manager regarding budgets, departmental goals, and performance outcomes. Foster positive communication with associates and customers to create an inviting shopping experience. Ensure equipment and facilities are maintained according to company safety standards. Keep grocery areas clean and uphold high sanitary conditions. Encourage team members to embrace company initiatives and process enhancements positively. Demonstrate strong management skills and effectively organize workflows. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum: Availability to work flexible schedule including mornings, afternoons, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to make quick, informed decisions while maintaining composure in high-pressure situations. Capability to manage personnel, merchandising, inventory, customer service, and other operational facets effectively. Knowledge of relevant employment laws and regulations, including OSHA compliance. Skilled in operating power machinery and tools necessary for the job. Desired: Prior grocery retail experience or experience as a backup manager.
