Salary: $25.00 - $30.00 Hourly Location : Winnetka, IL Job Type: Part-time Job Number: 20260309 Department: Public Works Opening Date: 03/11/2026 General Purpose The Public Works Laborer performs unskilled maintenance work, and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of water, sanitary sewer, street, and storm drainage facilities and systems. This is a position requiring the ability to work in accordance with well-established rules, policies, practices, and procedures. Essential FunctionsAssist with the operation of a Vactor machine for sewer jetting and cleaning as part of sewer team Assist with the operation of a robotic sewer televising camera. Utilizes Cues software to document inspections. Read maps, blueprints and take measurements; perform utility locates. Utilizes field mapping apps to update GIS; perform hand sketches for more detailed map revisions. Assist in repairing manholes; patch cracks in underground vaults and manholes; brush or spray walls with waterproof compounds. Assist in performing excavation work including hand digging and probing for utilities. Carry and wheel heavy material. Perform pavement maintenance and repair, such as saw cutting, pavement breaking, removal, and disposal. Perform parkway/roadside maintenance which includes the removal of stump cuttings, backfilling, repairing, and seeding disturbed parkway areas; leaf collection; removal, replacement, and repair of sidewalks; brush and bush trimming; and mowing of roadside vegetation as needed. Assist with installing traffic control and street signage, and with the layout and application of pavement markings with walk-behind spray machine as needed. Assist with operations related to snow and ice control, including anti-icing and de-icing applications, shoveling and plowing sidewalks, and disposing of snow from commercial areas as needed. Provide janitorial services at Village facilities as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Desired Minimum Qualifications Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. One to three months related experience or training preferred. Other Requirements Typical schedule is Monday through Friday 20 to 25 hours weekly. Flexible work schedule in between hours of 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Work is performed in outdoor conditions and/or near vehicular traffic.
