The William Temple House Thrift Store seeks individuals to volunteer at our store in NW Portland. Volunteers are needed to help on the Sales Floor, unload and process customer donations, and assist customers. The William Temple House Thrift Store offers the community quality merchandise including furniture, clothing, jewelry, books, art and more. All profits from the store support the mental health counseling and social services offered at William Temple House. Volunteer Position Descriptions Sales Floor Volunteer Volunteers will be trained to work on the selling floor. Duties include putting out new items, rehanging and restocking items that have been tried on and helping to maintain a tidy sales floor. Preferred shift is a 2+ hour shift weekly or bi-weekly. Cashier Volunteer The Volunteer Cashier position is a good fit for volunteers who love working with people and enjoy a lively retail environment! As a Volunteer Cashier, you'll help greet customers, answer questions, straighten up on the sales floor, and process transactions using our Point of Sale (POS) system. No previous register experience required - training is provided! A weekly two-hour shift between 12pm-2pm, 2pm-4pm, or 4pm-6pm is preferred (on any day that the Thrift Store is open). Greeter & Info Table Volunteer Duties include: greeting customers, answering questions, and promoting WTH’s programs and services. This position will play an important role in engaging customers and the community about our Social Services and Mental Health Counseling Services, and community impact – and promoting how shopping and donating to the Thrift Store support those services. Preferred shift is a 2+ hour shift weekly or bi-weekly.Preferred days/times is a 2 hour shift on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays anytime from 12pm to 5pm. Donation Intake Volunteer Duties of this position include: helping receive donations, sorting donations, filling out donation receipts, and helping unload donated items. Other duties may include assisting in moving the priced merchandised from the dock area to the selling floor, helping customers on the selling floor, and keeping the selling area neat and well organized. Ability to lift and carry 30+ lbs is preferred. Preferred shift is a 2+ hour shift on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, between 10am and 4pm. Book Volunteer The book volunteer will shelve books that have been priced by the Staff Book pricer, putting the books in the appropriate areas and making sure that the books on the selling floor are in order. This individual may price books that the staff book pricer has pre-sorted. Preferred weekly shift is 2+ hour shift (on any day the Thrift Store is open, other than Thursdays). Job Requirements: Work on your feet for the entire shift. This is a physical job.All Thrift Store volunteer positions require the ability to stand and bend, but the Cashier position and Info Table positions can be done while mostly seated. Have good people-skills, be flexible, possesses good problem-solving skills, and be able to maintain a positive attitude while working with a diverse group of people. Be on time and work all scheduled shifts. Be able to work on projects independently, or as part of a team. For the Cashier Volunteer position: complete a background check, complete the cashier training/orientation, and adhere to PCI (Payment Card Industry) standards and training. Additional Information: Thrift Store hours are Mon to Sat 10am-6pm, and Sun 11am-6pm. Flexible weekday/weekend scheduling is available. The Thrift Store is closed on the third Monday of every month (for inventory).We are currently limiting the number of volunteers per shift to 3 people.
