The unit consists of 24 beds with an average daily census of 24. Patient types include various diagnoses such as cardiac, respiratory, and neuro. Patient ratios are typically RN: 1:5-6 during the day and night, with potential surge staffing ratios of up to 1:7-8. CNA assistance ratio is 1:12. Support within the department includes charge nurses who may have patient assignments but always serve as resources for staff. Phlebotomy and IV/VAT teams, along with a respiratory therapy team, provide support 24/7. There is a hospitalist on-site during the day with virtual support in the evenings and overnight. Telemetry monitoring is conducted remotely with the assistance of tele techs. Experience with EMR systems is required, specifically 6 months of experience with EPIC. Traveling may be required within the region and scope of practice as needs arise. Orientation includes departmental training for two days. A weekend rotation is expected every other week. There may be a potential for low census call, where RNs can be called off or placed on call. Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays. Requests for time off can be approved, excluding holidays, with additional time added to the end of the contract if unable to meet contracted hours.
