Job Description Job Title: Industrial Gearbox Assembler Similar Titles: Industrial Gearbox Mechanic, Industrial Maintenance Mechanic, and Industrial Machinery Mechanic Location: Elk Grove Village, IL (Greater Chicago Area) easy commute from Arlington Heights (north), Schaumburg (west), and Elmhurst (south), as well as surrounding northwest Chicago suburbs. This Industrial Gearbox Assembler role is a hands-on position for a mechanically strong professional who wants to build complex gearboxes and see a clear path for growth. You’ll work on critical power-transmission assemblies while contributing to a team that is scaling operations and promoting from within. Key Responsibilities Build industrial gearboxes, subassemblies, and related mechanical components using blueprints, work instructions, and bills of materials. Read and interpret mechanical drawings, assembly schematics, and technical documentation to complete jobs accurately and efficiently. Install gears, bearings, seals, shafts, and housings, maintaining tight tolerances, proper alignment, and correct fit. Use micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and other precision tools to verify dimensions and ensure assemblies meet specifications. Perform torqueing, shimming, and backlash adjustments in line with internal quality and performance standards. Conduct functional tests and visual inspections on completed assemblies; document results as required. Troubleshoot assembly and fitment issues, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area consistent with safety policies and 5S principles. Collaborate with quality, engineering, and production teams to meet build schedules and customer requirements. Required Qualifications 3-5 years of experience in gearbox assembly or heavy mechanical/industrial assembly. Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings. Proficiency with hand tools, torque tools, and precision measuring instruments. Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills. High school diploma or GED. Preferred Qualifications Experience in industrial manufacturing, power transmission, rotating equipment, or heavy equipment environments. Hands-on experience working with bearings, gear sets, shafts, and housings. Technical or vocational training in mechanical, industrial, or related fields. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis. Ability to stand, bend, and move on the production floor for extended periods. Comfortable working around oils, lubricants, and standard industrial materials.
