Registered Nurse - Rehabilitation

Job Details We are an Acute Inpatient Rehab Facility - our patients Come to us after strokes, spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, amputees, and can be medically complex. Below are some conditions we treat (keep in mind, our patients may have more than one of these conditions):&bull Strokes, TBI, Spinal Cord injuries, Trauma, Resp. Failure, Cardiac Failure, Surgical Complications, non-healing wounds, , bowel obstructions, prosthetic training etc...&bull The patients get 3 hours of therapy a day, PT, OT SLP&bull The patients don't plan on coming to us except for prosthetic training.&bull The average stay in our hospital is 10-14 days.Acuity:&bull Only drips we do is Heparin and that is rare.&bull You will see wounds, wound vacs, trachs, IV antibiotics, dementia&bull We are like a med surg floorNurse Patient Ratios&bull Typical load is 7-8:1. We also staff about the same or slightly higher with nursing assistant. &bull Behaviors or increased isolation could result in smaller assignments.&bull UPMC does all of our labs, IVs, etc. You can start your own IVs if competent.EHR/Med dispense&bull We are on EPIC for our Electronic Health Record&bull We use Omnicell Orientation&bull You will only get one 12 hour shift of orientation. If needed we will give a 2nd shift.&bull After that one shift of orientation, you are expected to take your own team of patients. &bull A resource nurse will be assigned to check in on you a few times throughout the shift to ensure you have everything you need. &bull Successful nurses for this engagement site are those with critical thinking skills and recent med/surg hospital experience. It is a busy unit. Good time management to manage the nursing needs around the therapy schedule along with being communicative and a team player.o The expectation is that night shift staff work every other Friday and Saturday and day shift staff work every other Saturday and Sunday. Trades are optional after the schedule is posted. o Every other holiday is also expected.o If you call off on a weekend you will be expected to make up that weekend.o Burgundy scrubs, No crocs, open heeled shoeso No cell phone, drinks, or food in patient areas.
