Industrial Shop HelperNE Portland$27-28/hr.Job DescriptionWe are seeking a hard working Shop Helper to join our team. You will play a crucial role in our production process by operating cranes, handling materials, and ensuring product quality. This role requires attention to safety, precision in operation, and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment.Responsibilities Operate overhead and wall walker cranes using remote or pendant controls. Secure rigging devices such as chains, straps, hooks, and magnets for lifting materials. Transport materials using equipment like forklifts and pallet jacks. Perform safety inspections and complete applicable checklists. Set up and operate saws to cut materials per specifications and monitor multiple saws. Use hand tools to measure and verify material dimensions and quality. Utilize computer systems for documentation, labeling, scanning, and printing. Use grinders and sanders to remove burrs and rough edges from materials. Label and package products for shipping using appropriate materials and banding equipment. Perform maintenance tasks such as changing saw blades, propane tanks, and sideloader batteries. Maintain a clean and safe work environment by sweeping shavings and clearing debris. Participate in safety, quality, and job training sessions. Essential Skills Forklift operation Material handling Mechanical skills Proficiency in using tape measures and overhead cranes Fabrication background with experience in waterjets, saws, and sideloaders Preventative and corrective maintenance skills CNC and saw operation experience Carpentry skills Additional Skills & Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required Experience operating metal cutting saws or similar equipment preferred Ability to read and interpret work orders, blueprints, and measuring tools Basic math and computer skills Strong attention to detail and safety practices Ability to work independently and as part of a team Physical ability to perform tasks associated with medium work Why Work Here?Join a unionized environment with Teamsters 206, offering comprehensive benefits. You will be working in an environment where steel is cut and processed for shipment. Initial training will be conducted in a conference room for the first week, followed by transition to shifts starting at 2:30 PM with likely 12-hour durations. The first two weeks involve cleaning to familiarize with the environment.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, OR.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $27.70 - $27.70/hr.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
