Job Description & Requirements Specialty: Registered Respiratory Therapist Discipline: Allied Health Professional Start Date: 03/30/2026 Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours Employment Type: Travel We’re hiring an experienced Registered Respiratory Therapist for a hospital in Pittsburgh, PA where you will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the treatment, care, and needs of patients with breathing disorders. Minimum Requirements: Associate or bachelor’s degree from a Respiratory Therapy or Cardiopulmonary Science program. Current Pennsylvania state Respiratory Therapist license in good standing. Registry as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). Minimum one year recent experience as an RRT in an acute care hospital setting. BLS certification required. Experience operating and troubleshooting mechanical ventilators and non-invasive ventilation equipment. Experience performing arterial blood gas sampling and interpretation. Experience with suctioning, tracheostomy care, endotracheal tube management, and ventilator weaning protocols. Ability to perform 12-lead EKG and basic arrhythmia recognition. Ability to assist with procedures such as bronchoscopy and chest tube management. Current ACLS certification preferred. Prior experience in moderate complexity laboratory specimen handling or pulmonary function testing preferred. Standard Job DescriptionRespiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, administering intensive respiratory care and patient transport into and out of the facility as medically prescribed, within the scope of professional license and with minimal supervision. Evaluates patients and recommends treatment plans. Explains purpose and procedure of treatments, tests, and equipment to patients and provides necessary education upon discharge. Conducts physician-prescribed treatments of a routine nature using invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizers to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation. Performs chest physiotherapy, various suctioning methods, oximetry and capnography monitoring, and routine review of chest x-rays to determine need for further evaluation. Performs 12-lead EKGs, basic arrhythmia recognition, pulmonary function studies, and assists with procedures such as bronchoscopy and chest tube placement. Performs tracheostomy care and arterial puncture according to policy. Operates and monitors mechanical ventilation, performs equipment set-up and self-tests, and assists with preventative maintenance. Records all pertinent treatment information and communicates clinical status to attending and pulmonary physicians. Performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation per BLS and ACLS guidelines. Maintains accurate respiratory therapy charging and documentation. Performs other duties as assigned.
