Accountant Pay: $26.44 per hour (Weekly Pay) Location: Phoenix, Arizona 85012 Schedule Details: Monday - Friday | 9 AM - 5 PM Job Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented Accountant to support accurate financial reporting and effective fiscal operations within a state agency. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, organized, and committed to maintaining compliance with established financial standards and deadlines. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. A proactive mindset and a focus on improving processes will be key to success in this position. Responsibilities Prepares and evaluates agency Financial Statement records to ensure they meet standards and are complete. Tracks cash balances, federal fund deposits, and receivable transfers to ensure proper funding and timely processing. Accurately records cash receipts in the financial system according to standards and deadlines. Managing and collecting outstanding payments from clients: resolve overdue bills, negotiate payment plans, and maintain accurate financial records Analyzes accounting systems, procedures, and policies to improve financial operations and ensure effective fiscal management. Identifies financial issues and recommends solutions. Makes updates and corrections to financial records, including ledgers and accounts. Maintains accurate financial records and performs daily and monthly transactions using QuickBooks. Collects and summarizes financial data to prepare reports on account activity and financial status. Maintains cash balances in funds, compiles cash reports and monitors daily cash activities, maintains ledgers, makes entires and revisions to agency accounts, ledgers and financial records. Monitors funds from the federal government and other grantors to ensure proper matching of state and federal expenditures. Conducts wire reconciliation, ensures compliance with state and federal regulation, federal reports, cash forecasts and monitoring. Completes daily and bi-weekly draws, monitors and ensures compliance with the Treasury State Agreement; monitors fund balances and delivers ad-hoc reports. Required Knowledge Information systems/databases. QuickBooks Reference materials such as federal regulations, ARS, SAAM, GAAP, applicable agency manuals, policies and procedures and the information contained therein. Fiscal principles and practices Analysis and reporting of financial data Principles, concepts, practices, methods and techniques of government accounting Internal control structures, and fiscal management Methods and techniques of automated financial systems Required Skills / Abilities Analysis, interpretation, and communication of financial data Using automated accounting and spreadsheet processes to create, develop, monitor and reconcile fiscal records and reports Problem solving Developing correspondence, reports, and procedures Effective verbal and written skills Coordinate and resolve inter-departmental problems/issues Perform independent research Obtain a strong work ethic and attention to detail Work independently with little to no supervision Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers Organize and maintain files, accurate records, and business processes of optimized workload and productivity Work concurrently on multiple tasks and change task/work priorities based on workload and situations Recognize potential issues and pro-actively address and solve Required Qualifications A Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field Experience using automated accounting and spreadsheet processes to create, develop, monitor and reconcile fiscal records and reports Experience analyzing, interpreting, and communicating financial data
