Job Description

Welder II The Welder II is responsible for laying out, fitting, and fabricating metal components to assemble structural forms in a mechanical environment. This role requires intermediate-level expertise in welding techniques, metallurgy, and interpreting engineering specifications. Key duties include performing tack and full welds, inspecting weld quality, reading blueprints, and operating precision measuring tools. The Welder II must demonstrate reliability, a willingness to learn, and maintain a positive attitude while working in physically demanding conditions that may include outdoor exposure and elevated workspaces. Responsibilities: Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightedge, combination square, caliper, and ruler. Tack-welds or welds components and assemblies. Cuts workpieces, using powered saws, hand shears, or a chipping knife. Melts lead bar, wire, or scrap to add lead to the joint or to extrude melted scrap into a reusable form. Observes tests on welded surfaces to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications. Inspect grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using a micrometer, caliper, and precision measuring instruments. Removes rough spots from workpiece, using portable grinder, hand file, or scraper. Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions. Heats, forms, and dresses metal parts, using hand tools, torch, or arc welding equipment. Ignites torch and adjusts valves, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc. Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations. Determines required equipment and welding methods, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques. Qualifications: Single process Welding (stick) Reliable attendance and punctuality Willingness to learn. Positive attitude and keeps a good morale on-site Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and high, precarious places. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
