As a Medical Coding Consultant, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of medical coding practices. You will offer invaluable consulting services and educational support to healthcare professionals, aiding them in improving their coding standards. By working closely with clients and healthcare leaders, you will ensure that we not only meet but exceed customer expectations through the identification of solutions and collaboration. This position allows you to significantly influence coding quality, ensure compliance, and optimize outcomes in hospitals and alternative care settings. Your Responsibilities Will Include: Reviewing medical records and assigning accurate codes (CPT, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, HCPCS) that reflect client requirements. Conducting data quality reviews to ensure compliance with official coding and documentation standards. Communicating effectively with colleagues, management, and hospital staff about clinical and reimbursement matters. Demonstrating excellent written and verbal communication abilities. Identifying opportunities for documentation improvement and addressing coding challenges. Utilizing VPN access to ensure productivity and flexibility in task completion. Upholding Datavant and HIM Division policies, fostering a culture of compliance and operational effectiveness. Tracking continuing education credits to maintain a high proficiency standard. Participating in mandatory sponsored in-service and educational meetings to stay aligned with industry best practices. Following the American Health Information Management Association's code of ethics to uphold professional integrity. Your Qualifications Should Include: At least 1 year of hands-on experience with HCC coding. Experience with Annual Wellness Visit (AWV) coding. Strong knowledge of CPT II codes. Ability to follow structured, process-driven workflows. Proven success in meeting productivity and quality standards. AHIMA (RHIA, RHIT, CCS) or AAPC (CPC, CPC-H, COC, CIC, CRC) certification. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong capability for remote work and effective time management. Familiarity with computerized encoding and abstracting software. Commitment to taking and passing annual HIPAA examinations and any other assigned tests. What We Offer: A comprehensive benefits package, including a 401k Savings Plan.
