The Production Planner / Scheduler is responsible for developing and maintaining the production schedule to ensure efficient manufacturing operations. This role coordinates with sales, customer service, production, purchasing, inventory, and shipping to ensure customer orders are completed on time while maximizing plant capacity and minimizing downtime, changeovers, and inventory imbalances. The planner ensures that materials, labor, and machine capacity are aligned with demand, using the company's ERP system (such as IFS) to manage production orders and scheduling. Essential Functions Production Planning & Scheduling Develop and maintain daily and weekly production schedules based on customer demand and forecast. Convert customer orders into production orders within the ERP system. Sequence jobs to optimize machine utilization, minimize changeovers, and improve efficiency. Monitor production progress and adjust schedules as necessary. Coordinate with production managers and shift supervisors to ensure schedule adherence. ERP & Data Management Maintain accurate production orders, work orders, and schedules in the ERP system. Ensure BOMs, routings, and lead times are correctly reflected in the system. Track production performance vs. schedule. Analyze schedule variances and identify improvement opportunities. Material Planning Ensure raw materials and packaging materials are available prior to production. Coordinate with purchasing and warehouse teams to prevent material shortages. Monitor inventory levels and recommend adjustments. Cross-Functional Coordination Act as the central communication link between: Sales / Customer Service Production Shipping Purchasing Inventory Control Communicate schedule changes or risks to stakeholders. Work with shipping to ensure customer delivery commitments are met. Continuous Improvement Identify opportunities to improve: Production flow Schedule stability Inventory turns Machine utilization Support lean manufacturing and operational improvement initiatives. Performance Measures On-time order completion Schedule adherence Machine utilization Production downtime due to planning issues Inventory turns Supervisor Responsibility None Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. Regular attendance is expected and required. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Education, Licenses, and Experience Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Operations Management, Business, or Engineering preferred. Equivalent manufacturing planning experience may be accepted. 35 years experience in production planning, scheduling, or manufacturing operations. Experience in ERP systems (IFS preferred). Experience in manufacturing environments such as plastics, extrusion, or process manufacturing is a plus. Skills (Language, Mathematical, Reasoning, Other) Strong analytical and organizational skills Excellent communication and coordination ability Advanced Excel skills Ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Strong understanding of manufacturing capacity planning Working Conditions/Physical Demands Must be able to work in a production environment that is moderately noisy requiring the use of hearing protection at all times.
