Position Description The City of Tolleson is seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Wastewater Operator I. The primary function of an employee in this class is to learn to perform technical operations, maintenance, and repair of Wastewater Treatment Plants and associated equipment. Incumbents work with certified operators under close supervision. The duties listed below are only intended as an illustration of the various types of work that may be performed. Conducting field inspections; collecting and testing of wastewater samples; performing routine maintenance; conducting routine lab testing; operating heavy equipment; performing minor repairs; completing logs and work orders; reading/recording totalizers; recording data; managing biosolids; reclaiming water systems; gas chlorination equipment; auto sampler operation; and ensuring all equipment is operating within specified parameters. Qualifications A High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent. A valid Arizona driver's license required. ADEQ Operator certifications preferred, and a Grade 1 certification, or ability to obtain a Grade 1 certification within one (1) year from date of hire. Additional Requirements This is an entry level operator position and shift selection is based on seniority. This vacancy will be assigned to swing and/or night shifts until day shifts are available. May require working weekends, evenings, nights, holidays, overtime and emergency call-outs Incumbent will be required to be SCBA certified. Physical Demands Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Medium: Exerting 20-50 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, blood and other bodily fluids, and extreme temperatures.
