South Fayette Township School District 3680 Old Oakdale Road McDonald, PA 15057 (412) 221-4542; Fax (724) 693-2883 Job Description Volunteer Athletic Coach Position Type: Unpaid / VolunteerReports to: Head Coach & Athletic DirectorLocation: South Fayette Township, PASeason: Varies by sport; includes off-season commitment as needed Role Summary As a Volunteer Coach, you'll support the Head Coach in delivering an exceptional athletic experience for our student-athletes. You'll assist with practice planning, on-field coaching, and program culture, ensuring all participants grow in skill, confidence, and character. Key Responsibilities Practice and Game Support Aid in developing and executing practice plans aligned with coaching strategies. Provide hands-on instruction during drills, scrimmages, and games. Assist with game-day responsibilities-substitutions, player positioning, sideline management. Athlete Development Foster individual skill improvement through feedback and encouragement. Promote team cohesion, respect, and positive sportsmanship. Program Administration Support equipment set-up/take-down and facility upkeep. Attend team meetings, volunteer training, and parent information sessions. Uphold school and district policies, including safety protocols, eligibility standards, and mandated reporting guidelines. Mentorship & Communication Serve as a positive role model for students on and off the field. Engage with parents and guardians as directed by the Head Coach. Qualifications Prior experience in coaching, playing, or assisting in the sport is preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with students and adults. Commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment. Valid clearances required by Pennsylvania law (Act 34, Act 151, Act 114). PIAA or District training completion or willingness to complete required training. Time Commitment Regular practice sessions (typically 2-4 times per week) and games, usually on evenings and weekends. Optional: Off-season workouts, summer camps, or strength and conditioning sessions.
