Nestled deep in the beautiful bay area 5 minutes from downtown Annapolis is our state-of-the-art ER and referral center open 24 hours and 365 days a year. We have 25+ Veterinarians, 50+ Technicians, 20+ Assistants and 20+ Client Service Representatives. We work side-by-side with different specialty practices (Neurology, Cardiology, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Surgery, Ophthalmology, and Rehabilitation) and care for their patients overnight.Shift Time:6am-4pmWhat You'll Get to DoAs a Shift Lead you will commonly:Managing treatment floor operations and staffing.Inspire positive attitudes, respectful behavior, and open communicationCoach, counsel, utilize the corrective action process when appropriateProvide technical support on the treatment floor for ICU & AdmitAttend leadership meetings and contribute innovative ideas for growth and developmentWork with the Training Coordinator to ensure proper training of new and incumbent personnelDirect the general flow of the treatment room, ensuring that Veterinary Technicians and Assistants are executing duties as assignedEnsure the proper documentation and recordation of controlled drugs: maintain and enforce compliance with accurate recording in drug logsAssess patients upon arrival and prioritize them based on their health status after obtaining vitalsInitiate stabilization treatments such as intravenous catheterization, blood collection, fluid therapy, oxygen therapy and administering medications as directed by veterinarianParticipate in the development and implementation of treatment plans created by the veterinarianAdministers high quality patient care through timely monitoring; correctly performs treatments as directed by veterinarianCollect and analyze blood, urine, fecal and skin samples in our in-house laboratory full of Idexx analyzersAdminister anesthetic drugs and adjust them as needed during procedures and surgery, while recording and monitoring vital signsProduce images of soft-tissues, organs and bones safely with digital radiography equipmentPlace nasoesophageal and nasogastric feeding tubes for critical nutrition by mastering various suturing techniquesSupply patients in need with packed red blood cell and frozen plasma transfusionsCorrectly calculates drug dosages and administers drugs as directed by veterinarianLavage and assist in bandaging different wounds and lacerationsProvide top quality care for post-surgical cases, including specialty ICU casesProvides outstanding customer service when triaging, gathering patient information and relevant historyAttend CE courses/webinars or hands-on training as requested by the Clinical EducatorRegularly attend staff meetingsTime OffAt AAVEC we believe in Work - Life Balance and a healthy lifestyle which means the shift you are hired for is the shift time you will work every shift. Our rotation schedule was created by our veterinary technicians with the intent that it would allow them to take multiple vacations a year with using very little of their paid time off and would keep them from having to work every weekend. Every other weekend you will have 3 days off in a row, guaranteed. By only using 2 days of your PTO you are able to take 7 days off in a row multiple times a year. Your schedule is also tentatively made for the entire year so you can make plans long in advance and also have a part time hobby or job if you choose.Knowledge and Skill Requirements:Working knowledge and skill required to nurse critically ill and emergency patientsAbility to critically think, problem solve, and make decisions in order to follow through on DVM ordersKnowledge of basic computer functions and the ability to learn new veterinary based software applicationsAbility to work in a fast-paced, stressful work environment.
