We're focused on purpose-driven work, and strongly believe what's good for pets, people and our planet is good for Petco.Counsel II - CommercialJob SummaryThe Counsel II - Commercial will assist with a variety of legal matters arising in a global retail environment with a focus on contract drafting and negotiation in the areas of marketing/brand development, supply chain, and other consumer-facing activities (such as e-commerce), as well as general commercial matters. This person will work under the supervision of an Assistant General Counsel, advising on a diverse and challenging array of matters affecting the company.Key ResponsibilitiesIn support of and in conjunction with the Commercial Legal team:Draft, negotiate, and review a variety of domestic and international commercial agreements, including transportation, supply chain, SAAS, licensing, merchandising, manufacture and supply, consulting, marketing, agency, benefits, and other operational agreements.Provide day-to-day legal counsel to various Petco departments and comprehensive management and resolution of legal inquiries from business team members.Assist Legal department efforts in the creation, implementation and refinement of forms, policies and procedures and prepare and deliver trainings to business groups from time to time.Work cross functionally with business teams across the company to analyze legal risks, devise creative solutions, and develop strong, trusted advisor relationships.Obtain and maintain a solid knowledge of company products, services and objectives.Consult with other members of Petco's Legal Department as well as outside counsel as necessary in providing solutions to the challenges faced by various Petco business groups.QualificationsJuris Doctor (JD) degree from a top tier accredited law schoolActive state bar membership and in good standing5+ years of applicable experience at an internationally/nationally recognized law firm and/or in-house legal departmentSignificant experience in structuring, drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of agreements and identifying key issues - preferably with experience in general commercial transactions and business counselingStrong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate complex legal concepts to business teamsHighly motivated, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentPragmatic, business-oriented approach to the practice of law with an ability to effectively balance risk mitigation with business needs#LI-MK1#CORPQualified applications with arrest or conviction records will be considered for employment in accordance with the Los Angeles County Fair Chance Ordinance for Employers and the California Fair Chance Act.Petco Animal Supplies, Inc. is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
