Position Title: Relay & Power System TechnicianLocation: Midland TexasFLSA Class: NON-EXEMPTResponsible to: IC&E Engineering ManagerPosition Summary: This position is primarily responsible for the installation, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical protection relays, controls, and switchgear for Medium Voltage electrical generation, distribution, and substation equipment.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Installation and testing of new electrical protection relays and controlsTroubleshooting and repair for existing electrical protection and control systemsTesting, troubleshooting, and repair for LV and MV breakers, switchgear, and CT/PT circuitsAssisting the engineering and operations teams with new equipment commissioningAssisting the engineering team with the creation of as-built protection/control schematicsSupporting existing power generation fleets, compression stations, and other operational sitesDocumenting equipment test procedures and resultsProviding technical support to the remote operations center as neededQualifications:High School Diploma or GED.Minimum of ten years' experience in the power generation/distribution industryMinimum of five years' experience as a relay technicianExtensive knowledge of electrical breakers, switchgear, CT/PT circuits, and power transformersPrefer experience with Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories' (SEL) Relay product lineSignificant experience with Medium Voltage switchgear and distribution systemsField experience of troubleshooting electrical protection relay logic, control wiring etc.Excellent written and verbal communication skillsValid driver's licenseOther Preferred Qualifications:College degree and/or coursework in an engineering or technical fieldExperience with generator controllers (CAT EMCP, DEIF, Deep Sea, DI.ANE, etc.)Experience with industrial PLCs (Siemens, Allen Bradley, Rockwell, etc.)NETA certificationsExperience with P&C (Protection and Control)Experience with SEL RTACs and/or SEL PowerMaxExperience with Power Management SystemsExperience with the integration of industrial SCADA systemsKnowledge of National Electric Code (NEC) and/or other relevant codes and standardsFamiliarity with NETA commissioning and maintenance testing standardsThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this classification.
