Salary: $21.50 HourlyLocation : Clermont, FLJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: 01263Department: Police DepartmentOpening Date: 01/05/2026Closing Date: Continuous General DescriptionSelected applicants will receive a full sponsorship for all costs associated with attending a Basic Law Enforcement Academy to include tuition, books, and fees not covered by the GI Bill (if applicable); plus employment as a CPD Recruit, 40 hours per week, while enrolled in the Academy. Upon acquisition of a Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) law enforcement officer certification, the selected applicant will be appointed to Police Officer and will receive pay and benefits commensurate with that classification.This position is non-exempt. Fair Labor Standards Act overtime provisions will apply.*Please be sure to complete the CJSTC Form 58 and attach before submitting this application.*Per Florida Statute 295.065, certain servicemembers and veterans, and the spouses and family members of such servicemembers and veterans, receive preference and priority, and that certain servicemembers may be eligible to receive waivers for postsecondary educational requirements, in employment by the state and its political subdivisions and are encouraged to apply for the positions being filled. Primary Duties Participates and completes the Florida Law Enforcement Certification.Participate and completes Minimum Standards Course set forth by the Florida Police Standards.Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED.Must be at least 19 years old by Academy graduation.A United States citizen.Medically cleared by candidate's physician to participate in the Clermont Police Department's physical abilities test.Successful completion of the Clermont Police Department's physical abilities test.No felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving perjury or false statement.Not have a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States.Have a good moral character as determined by a background investigation under procedures established by the Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.Must be able to take and pass a physical exam, physical abilities test and drug screen.Must successfully complete the CPD hiring / background process, including a polygraph examination and psychological examination.Must have a valid Florida Driver's License. Essential Physical Functions & Environmental Conditions Physical Demands Walking, standing, running, climbing, jumping, bending, crawling, kneeling, stooping. Light to moderate lifting (up to 45 pounds). Meets and maintains all physical requirements needed to complete the Florida Law Enforcement Certification.Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction). Acceptable hearing (with or without correction).Communicates effectively both orally and in writing.Ability to smell.Moderate driving of City vehicle.Endure sustained acts of physical exhaustion and endure periods of duty under unfavorable and life threatening situations. Maintain a high level of physical fitness, strength and agility, which meets the physical requirements of the Florida Law Enforcement Certification.Work Environment Works part of the time inside in an environmentally controlled space. The other part of the time will also work outside in adverse weather conditions (e.g. heat, cold, wet or humid conditions, bright/dim lights, dust or pollen, odor, slippery or uneven surfaces, heights, and traffic). In or with moving objects or vehicles. In hazardous and stressful conditions.
