Georgia 811 is a communication system established to provide one telephone number for excavating contractors and the general public to notify utilities of their intent to use mechanized and/or non-mechanized equipment for excavation, tunneling, grading, boring, blasting, demolition or any similar work. This one call system provides the participating utility members an opportunity to locate and identify their underground facilities. This recognition reflects our commitment to a positive, supportive workplace culture where employees feel valued, respected, and empowered to succeed.Position Summary: The Education & Outreach Specialist leads Georgia 811's statewide elementary education and outreach program by delivering engaging in-person presentations to elementary school students across Georgia. This position also supports outreach campaigns, promotional materials, and departmental administrative needs. The role serves as a public-facing representative of Georgia 811 and requires extensive travel, strong presentation skills, and the ability to work independently.Key Duties & Responsibilities Educational Programming & OutreachDeliver the Digger Dog Utility Safety Program to elementary students in an engaging and age-appropriate mannerServe as the lead representative for Georgia 811's statewide elementary education programSchedule and coordinate school presentations to meet contracted appearance goalsAttend local events, parades, trade shows, conferences, and community outreach eventsManage setup and breakdown of program materials for each event/presentationDevelop, execute, and evaluate an annual statewide outreach campaignCoordinate with member utilities and community partners to support local visits and eventsManage educational program social media contentCoordinate travel logistics, including overnight trips as neededMaintain program materials, inventory, and assigned vehicle readiness/cleanlinessWork with contracted mascot company and manage related logisticsPromotional MaterialsCoordinate printing and distribution of outreach/education materialsMaintain inventory and organization of PR materials and storage areasManage incoming/outgoing public relations materialsAdministrative SupportProvide administrative/logistical support to the Corporate Communications DepartmentPerform additional duties as assignedTravel RequirementsApproximately 75% travel statewideIncludes early morning travel, day trips in the Atlanta area, and multi-day overnight trips across GeorgiaSome evening and weekend events requiredQualificationsRequired / PreferredBachelor's degree preferred (Communications, Education, Theatre, or related field); equivalent experience consideredExperience engaging and presenting to elementary-aged studentsStrong public speaking, presentation, and/or performance skillsHighly organized with strong time-management and communication skillsAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionStrong attention to detail and administrative capabilityProficiency in Microsoft Office SuiteKnowledge of one-call/utility locating processes preferredValid driver's license with clean driving recordAbility to professionally represent Georgia 811 with schools, partners, and the publicPhysical RequirementsAbility to sit, stand, walk, and drive for extended periodsAbility to lift at least 50 lbs.Ability to perform repetitive motions (typing, grasping, hand/wrist movements, filing, etc.)
