Job Summary - About the RoleAssist ecological restoration team of the St. Charles Park District to improve ecological health and functions of our natural areas and nature preserves.Knowledge, Skills & ExperienceThis position is well suited for someone with a pleasant personality. Work record that shows reliability, initiative, tact and productivity. Required: High School or GED equivalent. Must be at least 18 years of age. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must have or complete Mandated Reporter certification within 30 days of hire date. Preferred: Some plant identification ability and the aptitude to safely operate power equipment and apply herbicides.Essential Functions of the PositionPark District Cornerstones Follow all departmental safety rules that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of Park District's safety and risk management program. Work cooperatively and collaboratively with residents, colleagues, the public, PDRMA and other agencies or organizations as delegated. Recommends improvements and efficiencies to better accomplish individual and district goals in the best interests of the St. Charles Park District community. Comply with park district policies and administrative procedures.ResponsibilitiesUnder the direction and supervision of the Superintendent of Parks and Planning, the Assistant Superintendent of Outdoor Education, and the Ecological Restoration Supervisor, the Ecological Restoration Associate shall complete their assigned duties to the best of their abilities. They will offer suggestions of better ways to accomplish jobs and be ever mindful of the best interests of the St. Charles Park District and of fellow employees. This position is seasonal full-time as defined within the Park District's Personnel Practices Manual. This position requires extensive knowledge and ability to: Assist the Assistant Superintendent of Outdoor Education and the Ecological Restoration Supervisor. Assist in cutting, hauling, chipping, and burning of brush and trees using both hand and power equipment. Be attentive to the care and cleaning of all equipment Obtain an operator herbicide license and prepare and apply herbicide as directed and appropriate. Assist in the collection of seeds, the planting of seeds and plants, and assist with the cultivation of plants in the native plant propagation area. Keep the Ecological Restoration Supervisor adequately informed at all times of problems related to work and changes in plans of work. Work over and above required daily hours when necessary. Continually upgrade knowledge of all aspects of position. Operate motorized equipment as required. Provide support services for environmental education programs and events. Work cooperatively and harmoniously with the general public, cooperating agencies, volunteers and fellow employees. Effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
