Learn more at .Position Summary Under the leadership of the Director of Academics, the Special Education Coordinator is to work with and co-teach middle and/or high school students to ensure their success in a college preparatory program. The Special Education Coordinator provides effective instruction and support in curricular areas for which employed; utilizes various instructional resources and technologies; demonstrates knowledge of the teaching/learning process; develops and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of a diverse student population; maintains contact and communication with parents and Student Life staff; and works effectively with administrators, colleagues, and all members of the school community.He/She/They is also responsible for the coordination of special education programs and related services within his/her respective assignment; assists in the supervision of support staff; and to do other related functions as directed.Job Responsibilities Maintain communication with other special education professionals in the state to ensure continuity of servicesReview federal and state legislation regulations related to special education and identify and share the impact of changes on the schoolAssess and evaluate a team of special education teachers and instructional associates.Design instructional and monitoring tools for students with disabilitiesSupport the development and implementation of a co-teaching modelCollaborate with teachers and other instructional leaders to design and implement high-quality professional learning experiencesCreate and maintain a data warehouse for students with disabilitiesServe as a member of the instructional leadership teamFacilitate, investigate and develop internal corrective action plans per ComplaintInvestigations filed with the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE)Facilitate and assist with MSDE compliance monitoring activitiesDevelop and conduct internal compliance monitoring activitiesProvide countywide in-service trainings regarding special education compliance issuesConduct proactive Internal Investigations and Implementation of Corrective Action Plans when appropriate prior to MSDE scheduled Investigation /Complaint VisitationsAssist school with compliance issues and/or situations regarding students and the special education processCompile and report data indicators to MSDE based on given timelineAttend monthly compliance meetings at state level (SESAC, DSE)Participates in Due Processes Hearings as necessaryAttends court dates for truancy issues related to IEP studentsPlans, procures and manages supplemental service contracts related to assigned programs (Speech, OT)Monitor development and implementation of all aspects of special education processCollaborate with school based administrators and MSDE compliance monitors to ensure discipline of students with disabilities is handled appropriatelyWork collaboratively with special education advisory committee to refine and enhance programs and services for students with disabilitiesCompile school special education data into manageable reports for administration and teachers to drive instruction and interventionsImplementation and monitoring of evidence - based interventions for students with disabilitiesManages department grants and monitoring outcomesAttend most IEP meetings for the schoolPerform other duties as assigned.RequirementsQualifications Master's degree in related field is requiredActive teaching special education certificate (grades 6-12) is requiredCertification in Educational Leadership and Supervision is requiredMinimum of 3 years' experience in a similar position is requiredDoctorate in related field and/or prior teaching experience is highly desired.Salary Description Up to $100,000
