Job Description

The General Foreperson coordinates crew members, equipment, tools, and supplies in order to complete all jobs efficiently, correctly, and profitably.Pay range is $28-$29 an hour, based on experience and qualifications. We offer benefits in health, vision, and dental, as well as 401K. This job will start in January of 2026.Previous experience as a General Foreperson working around powerlines is required to be considered for this role. Familiarity with ropes and knots is preferred. Must be willing to travel. Driver's License or CDL is preferred but not required.Essential FunctionsAlways follow and help enforce safe practices and rulesKeep utility company representatives informed of crew members and equipmentEstablish and monitor systems to ensure proper maintenance and cleanliness of all equipment and facilitiesPrompt dispatch of crews to job sitesTeach all safety regulations to crew members and ensure 100% compliance on the safety regulationsInstruct employees how to operate all equipment and use materials safelyEnsure first aid equipment is readily available to crews at all timesAssist in filling out accident reports promptly and completely when needed and investigate cause(s) of accidentsHire, train, and discipline employeesDetermine workable hours and approve all time submitted by employees (chargeable and non-chargeable); Keeps non-chargeable hours and overtime to a minimumMaintain good morale and handle basic grievancesStudy and determine most efficient way to handle each job, considering such factors as location, season, crew availability, equipment, materials, etc.Use and transport materials and chemicals to avoid waste, loss and hazardsControl productivity of each crew member and utilize each tool and piece of equipment to its fullestEnsure there are sufficient and appropriate materials and equipment to do each jobAccountable for all tools, equipment, safety devices, materials, and suppliesStore equipment and materials safely each night to avoid loss by theft, vandalism, etc.Know operating conditions of all equipment; recommend and schedule replacement of maintenance in time to avoid a breakdownKnow proper and complete operation of each piece of equipment and ensure crew members use the right equipment for each jobEnsure that all drivers possess the proper driving card and are approved to drive for the vehicle they operateEnsure that all employees have the proper certifications and qualifications for their positions and the equipment they operatePerform duties for storm work as neededSupervisory ResponsibilitiesThe General Foreperson has all crew positions as direct reports.Experience RequirementsAt least 5 years' prior experience in electric utility vegetation management, construction, logging, landscaping, mechanical, or military industries preferred; previous experience as a General Foreperson preferredEducation RequirementsHigh School diploma or education equivalent preferredKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesMust be able to supervise the performance of individual employees and various crews' performanceMust be able to delegate work and take accountability for the performance of a crewMust maintain a professional and effective relationship with employees, customers, and the general publicMust be able to meet and demonstrate qualifications of all positions on a crewMust be able to travel throughout the week to assigned crew locationsMust possess strong organizational skillsMust have and maintain a Driver's License and be able to safely drive a company vehicleMust be able to work outdoors under varying and sometimes adverse weather conditionsMust be able to obtain and maintain first-aid certification and CPRMust be able to effectively communicate with othersMust be able to travel out of town for storm restoration work when neededWork authorization requirements:Must meet I-9 requirements.Affirmative Action/EEO statement: Xylem Tree Experts and Kendall Vegetation Services provide equal employment opportunity to all individuals regardless of their race, color, creed, religion, gender, age, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by state, federal, or local law.Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities required of the employee for this job.
