You'll combine hands-on technical expertise with strong leadership to keep rail operations safe, compliant, and running smoothly. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a leadership role, values precision and safety, and wants to make a meaningful impact on the reliability of railway operations.Please watch our career video for more information the inspection, testing, and maintenance of crossing and train control systems ensuring they are performed in compliance with Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations (e.g., 49 CFR Part 234 & 236, MUTCD and G&W Test and Maintenance Procedures)Oversee installation of signal and highway traffic-control equipment in line with FRA regulations, design plans and G&W standards and policiesPlan work assignments, manage schedules and ensure required materials are availableProvide technical support for troubleshooting and the restoration of crossing and train control devices to serviceInvestigate accidents and issue restorative work ordersPerform regular quality control and functionality testing of crossing and signal systems for regulatory and G&W rules and standards.Maintain and audit records of all tests, inspections, and repairs performed ensuring compliance with all company, state, and federal regulationsAssist with providing inspection coverage for open positions and signal maintainer vacations to maintain regulatory compliance.Train all employees in operating practices according to federal regulations and company policies; handle issues and resolve problems as they ariseManage projects and perform other duties as assignedWorking Conditions / Physical Requirements:Full-time (40 plus hours weekly)Varying schedule in a 24/7 work environment that includes nights, holidays, weekends, and on-callOutdoor work in all weather conditionsWalking on uneven surfaces and climbing ladders and equipment always ensuring three points of contactAble to squat, bend and lift overhead for extended periods of kneeling or crouching (bending at the knees)Occasional lifting of equipment and tools up to 89 poundsSkills and Experience:Able to complete written forms and reports as requiredAble to read and interpret documents including safety rules, manuals, and regulationsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsStrong problem-solving and mathematical abilities including data collection and analysis, statistics, geometry, trigonometry, etc.Must have thorough working knowledge of FRA regulations governing railroad-signal and train-control systemsKnowledge of wayside/crossing detection and control and other signal-related apparatuses (Example: ABS, CTC, Search Light and Color Light Signals, Hot Box Detectors, Interlockers and AEI Readers, GCP3000+, MS4000, XP4, PMD-3, GCP4000/5000)Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office, applications, reporting)Required Education and Credentials:High school diploma or general education degree (GED), associate degree, or equivalent from 2-year college or technical school in electrical field; or high school diploma or general education degree (GED), and 5+ years of signal-maintenance and signal-construction work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experienceCDL is a plus or able to able to obtain one if requiredEmployment Requirements:Pre-employment physical, hearing, and vision medical reviewMay be subject to federally mandated drug and alcohol testing including pre-employment drug screeningBackground screening including criminal and motor vehicle driving historyRelocation:Must live within 50 miles of assigned location or be willing to relocate.
