This position will be working on campus during academic and break sessions.OVERVIEW Associated Students, Inc. employs student-focused professionals with equity-mindsets. Established in 1963, Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) is a non-profit corporation guided by a student board and managed by full-time professional staff. ASI is considered a part of the Cal Poly Pomona Division of Student Affairs with a dashed reporting line to Administrative Affairs. ASI serves the entire campus population, including over 27,000 students, by providing opportunities for student engagement, student employment, and a multitude of programs and services such as recreation and wellness, student union and activities, student government, and childcare. ASI operational support areas include human resources, financial services, information technology, facilities management, and marketing. ASI is engaged in the work of being a learning organization. Currently, the guiding ideas of the organization are "under construction" as the team re-imagines its vision, mission, and core values. ASI is looking for dynamic team members who value team learning, co-creation, and adaptability to best serve the needs of our students. The ASI Facility Operations department is one of the largest departments in ASI. The department consists of four units, BRIC Operations, BSC Operations, Custodial Services and Maintenance, that are responsible for the maintenance, cleanliness, day-to-day operations, safety and emergency management of the BRIC and the BSC. The Facility Operations department strives to transform our facilities to a welcoming home for all and is committed to providing exceptional customer service experiences that lead to a sense of belonging in all ASI facilities.ASI Custodial Services is responsible for serving the Cal Poly Pomona community by ensuring all facilities and spaces within the Bronco Student Center and Bronco Recreation and Intramural Complex are hygienic and accessible so the events, programs, and services within can operate successfullyPOSITION DEFINITION Under general supervision from the Custodial Services Manager, the Lead Custodial Assistant provides oversight and coordination of ASI Custodial Services and serves as shift lead. The Lead Custodial Assistant performs complex assignments requiring specialized knowledge, prior relevant experience, and considerable independent judgment and decision-making.ESSENTIAL DUTIESAssists with the overall management of ASI Custodial Services and operations, including coordination of work and work assignmentsPerforms a variety of skilled and semi-skilled custodial tasks including, but not limited to, cleaning and maintaining assigned areas, cleaning carpets and buffing floors, removing trash and recyclables, reporting and responding to emergency calls for custodial assistance, and reporting facility and equipment repair needs Assigns, reviews, and inspects the work of assigned Custodial Services part-time staff, including completion of all relevant documentation and reportsIdentifies and organizes necessary work materials and equipment, which may include loading and unloading cleaning supplies, and materialsMaintains current knowledge of facility rooms and storageEnforces rules and regulations regarding the general use of the BRIC and BSCMaintains open communication with Custodial Services Manager, and all facility operations and management staff to ensure outstanding work productAssists in reviewing, updating, and making recommendations for updates to area standard operating proceduresPrepares and presents facility and process reports and trends in order to make recommendations to department areaEvaluates facility and process efficienciesAssists with procurement of supplies, equipment and services and tracking expenditures for the areaCommunicates with on-site vendors to assist with carrying out supply and equipment deliveriesAttends all mandatory meetings, trainings, and retreats and assist with planning as neededComply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, as well as ASI and University safety standardsPrepares and maintains appropriate logs and EOD reports through Connect2Presents a professional appearance and attitude at all times and maintains a high standard of customer servicePerforms other duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONSMinimum of one year custodial, janitorial, or similar experience required Experience using carpet extractor and floor buffing machines requiredSupervisor experience preferred, but not requiredDemonstrated leadership qualitiesGeneral knowledge of methods, materials, chemicals, and equipment used in custodial dutiesWorking knowledge of safety and sanitation measures appropriate for custodial workAbility to work independently and with a teamAbility to observe safety requirements and safe work practices and methods Ability to use custodial systems such as those used to track work orders and two-way radios for communicationAbility to analyze situations and take immediate actionAbility to guide the work of others and provide on-the-job trainingAbility to establish and maintain cooperative working relationshipsAbility to maintain professional work conductAbility to make independent decisions and make recommendationsDemonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population and campus community Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing Ability to operate an office workstation, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet and other software Ability to adhere to work rules, follow directions, use time effectively, and work productively with minimal supervisionCurrent American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certifications also known as Lay Responder (Employment offer contingent on obtaining certification within 30 days of hire, training provided by ASI)Complete a Pulmonary Function Test & Respiratory Medical Evaluation (cost covered by ASI upon offer to hire) with an outcome of "acceptable without work limitations" and a Respirator Fit Test to use an N95 respirator as needed.WORK ENVIRONMENTFrequently required to sit, talk, and hear; manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, and verbal communication; use of office equipment: telephones, calculator, copier and fax. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, crawl, climb, and lift up to 50lbs. Frequently required to use and store chemicals including disinfectant, glass, and neutral floor cleaners. Frequently required to operate heavy equipment including walking behind and riding on battery operated and manual auto scrubbers, manual carpet extractors and manual vacuum cleaners.Position subject to an occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Annual bloodborne pathogen training is required. The initial training must be completed before the employee is assigned duties that may result in exposure to blood or bodily fluids. Hepatitis B vaccination will be offered after the training. May be exposed to hazardous airborne containments; must wear a respirator to disinfect contaminated areas within an ASI operated building.EMPLOYMENT ELIGIBILITYEmployment with ASI is open to any Cal Poly Pomona student who is eligible to work and has the legal right to work in the United States. In addition, the employee must be currently enrolled in a minimum of 6.0 units (undergraduate) and 4.0 units (graduate), international student employees must be enrolled in a minimum of 12.0 units (undergraduate) and 6.0 units (graduate) at the end of the add-drop period. Student employees are required to have a minimum overall and Cal Poly Pomona GPA of 2.0 and be in good academic standing with the University. Individuals enrolled only in Extended University are not eligible for hire. Exceptions to the unit load requirement are allowed during the summer term and for students who have applied for graduation for the current term.
