Middle School & High School Assistant Librarian

Abraham Joshua Heschel School is seeking a full-time assistant librarian to support the middle school and high school departments. Abraham Joshua Heschel School, located in New York City, is an independent, pluralistic Jewish Day School, N-12, unaffiliated with any single movement or synagogue. The Heschel School includes families from a wide range of Jewish backgrounds, practices, and beliefs.Responsibilities include:Supervising middle and high school students across two library spaces.Covering, repairing, and shelving books and cataloging new booksHelping to weed outdated materialsCirculating books using OPALS softwareThe ideal candidate will Demonstrate a love of books and readingEnjoy working with young people in small group and one-on-one settingsSupport student research, by guiding students in using research databases and answering drop-in reference questionsHelp create displays, bulletin boards, and other readers advisoryKnowledge of Hebrew and/or Judaica topics preferredThis can be an ideal position for someone pursuing their MLS or interested in gaining experience in school librarianship.This can be an ideal position for someone pursuing their MLS or interested in gaining experience in school librarianship.Qualified applicants should upload a cover letter and resume.
