Job Title: CNC Machinist Level ADepartment: Machine ShopReports To: Machine Shop LeadFLSA Status: Non-ExemptShift Schedule: 1st Shift - 5:00 am - 4:30 pm Monday through Thursday2nd Shift - 4:30 pm - 5:00 am Monday through Wednesday and 4:30 pm -12:30 am Thursday Weekend Shift - 5:00 am - 5:30 pm Friday through SundaySummary: Operate CNC machines in a productive and safe manner to product parts that meet DSI quality requirements at the lowest cost in a timely manner while minimizing waste of materials and resources. As a level A machinist, a higher level of responsibility is given to ensure products are completed in a timely and accurate fashion as well as an involvement with your team in a positive and productive manner.Responsibilities and duties include:• Understanding of safety rules and regulations to prevent unsafe set-ups, operations, or acts which might cause injury to self, others, environment or equipment• Must read and understand tooling requirements, operational layouts, job packets, CNC programs and blueprints for parts being run (including geometric tolerance). This includes understanding of dimensions and tolerances of finished parts.• Operate machines in the department, including select and align tooling, fixtures and attachments for machining• Set-up and operate CNC machine on trial runoff new products and tooling to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data• Creating a setup sheet, tool list, and picture library of the machined part for all employees to access and use for future operations• Maintaining of 5S program and general organization of the shop• Make recommendations for trying new tooling, adjust tools and replace as needed • Work with leads to maintain all tooling so that adequate supplies are in stock, organized and available when needed• Consistently look for ways to improve a current process, make recommendations based on machining knowledge or seek outside resources to obtain further knowledge• Perform basic maintenance of machines as required and keep supervisors informed of necessary maintenance beyond minimal operator ability• At all times provide accurate data regarding tool changes and inventory counts in Epicor • Collect and input SPC data, which involves the use of comparator, CMM, gages and related test instruments• Accountability for following DSI's written quality procedures• Perform necessary side operations during machine cycle time as required (i.e., deburring)Ø Seeking out additional tasks to help the overall team to complete a project Ø It is expected that there will be little or no idle time in a cell or an area in the machine shop. Look for ways to improve a current process, perform other tasks or clean the area during machine cycle times• Provide peer training, coaching and assistance to other operatorsØ When coaching new staff members, ensure that the training and testing guidelines are followed. Work with the lead to establish the training schedule for each new hireØ Be a "go to person" for machinists to obtain knowledge, additional training and guidance Ø Contribute to the growth and vision of DSI by providing other machinists with knowledge• Take on the responsibility as back up lead when necessary• Assisting with the DNC programming by sending, receiving and storing of data in the proper format and folders• Assist in the establishment and recording of how many parts or pieces should be maintained by machinists for new jobs• Other duties as assigned.Education or Certifications:• High School diploma or equivalent• Two year degree in Machining Technology or CNC Machining trade and four years of years of CNC machining experience in milling or turning or 6 years of CNC Machining experience in milling or turning. May be a combination of schooling and education.Skills/Abilities/Competencies:• Able to lift 25 pounds or more daily and over 25 pounds occasionally• Ability to push or pull over 25 pounds daily or over 25 pounds occasionally• Ability to make decisions with very little or no guidance or supervision.• Communication skills both verbally and writtenØ As the leads backup, it is imperative in this position that communication with all employees is effective, positive and timely.Ø When the lead is absent, there must be verbal communication with the operations director or scheduler throughout the day to ensure production, performance and deadlines are being met
