Job Description Summary: Salary: $25.30 - $37.96 per hourThe Engineering Field Technician I is responsible for supporting TRWD engineering tasks in the field required to help meet the District's mission of water supply, flood control and recreation. Construction inspection services, corrosion control initiatives including cathodic protection (CP) and coating inspection, dam safety instrumentation readings, stream flow measurement calibration, pipeline integrity support and tasks as needed during flood monitoring are examples of the responsibilities this position will meet.Job Description Essential Functions and Responsibilities:The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to this position.Assist engineering tasks related to construction, cathodic protection (CP), coating inspection, dam safety, stream flow measurements, structural maintenance, flood monitoring and other engineering-related projects. May include but not limited to: Any project that engineering is involved in, such as pipeline integrity studies, surveying, and inspection of construction, to verify project requirements as set forth in the plans and technical specifications are being followedAssist engineering field techs 2, 3, 4 in field work, such as CP data collection, coating inspection, stream flow measurement for gauge calibration at all District facilities and locationsLead dam safety efforts associated with inspection, data collection, and instrumentation maintenance on all District dam and levee systemsAssist District personnel for special projects related to construction and maintenance of all District facilities and propertiesCoordinates with Infrastructure Integrity Manager to QA and store CP data in GIS and SharePointAssist with construction inspection, quality assurance measures and witnessing of factory acceptance testing of major equipmentAssist with on-site distressed pipe analysis and rehabilitation/replacement recommendation; participate in forensics analysis of replaced pipe segmentsAssist with engineering tasks related to construction, dam safety, stream flow measurements, structural maintenance, flood monitoring, and other engineering-related projectsPerforms inspection, data collection, and instrumentation maintenance on all District dam and levee systems. Responsibilities include reading instrumentation, downloading/trending data preparing site visit condition reports, maintaining tools & equipment and processing dataCoordinate with Survey Personnel for Dam-Related Data SurveysWork with Operations anode team on CP installation, testing and troubleshootingWork with Operations dam and levee personnel on instrumentation issues, testing, and troubleshootingWork with IPL construction team, inspectors and design teams on construction practices and testingWork with coatings team on methods and testingDocument means and methods, including for data management functionsFile and organize records within the department, including writing memos, documenting photos and documenting observations and as-built drawings to reflect current conditionsMaintain familiarity with strategic District levels of serviceContinuous improvement monitoring and innovation effortsPerform other duties as requiredRequired Experience: Three (3) years related experienceAbility to work independently and in a team environmentDesired Experience: Pipeline corrosion protection related experienceConfined space trainingBackground in troubleshooting equipment/instrument issuesStrength in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and writingProficient with computer testing equipment and software used for technical data collection, analysis, and managementDam and/or levee experience related to operations and maintenanceRequired Education/Certification/License:High School Diploma or GEDValid Texas driver's licenseDesired Education/Certification/License: Cathodic protection experience/certification (NACE CP 1 tester certification)Coating inspection experience/certification (NACE CIP 1 coatings inspector certification)Success Factors/Job Competencies: Basic math including algebra, geometry, and trigonometryBasic computer skills (MS office, SharePoint, GIS, Maximo)Demonstrate ability to work safely and follow safety guidelinesAbility to work in a team environment with shared responsibilitiesDemonstrate the ability to work effectively without direct supervision when necessaryAbility to work on multiple projects at onceAbility to establish work prioritiesMust be able to work occasional long or unusual hoursMust be able to reason at a level such that data can be collected, organized, and analyzedObtain a NACE CP 1 tester certificationObtain a NACE CIP 1 coatings inspector certificationObtain a confined space certificationPhysical Demands and Work EnvironmentThe physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
