POSITION TITLE: Mechanic- afternoon shift, hours 1:00pm-9:30pm REPORTS TO: Director of TransportationPOSITION SUMMARY: Performs repairs and maintenance of District buses, trucks and automotive equipment.FUNCTIONS OF THE JOBEssential Functions Performs skilled repair and maintenance tasks for all District buses, trucks, automobiles and other motorized transportation equipment. Performs major engine and transmission overhaul, as required. Performs electrical diagnostics and repairs. Performs brake system servicing and replacement, and chassis suspension repairs, as required. Performs bodywork and repairs and painting as well as interior maintenance and repair. Performs maintenance and repair of other equipment systems and components such as, exhaust system, hydraulic system, tire and glass replacement. Performs other preventative maintenance tasks in accordance with standard practices of the trade. Performs all mechanical tasks in a safe and conscientious manner. Marginal Functions Washes buses on a periodic basis. Cleans up and maintains shop and equipment on a weekly basis. Physical/Visual Activities or Demands: Physical/visual activities or demands that are commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job. Standing, walking, climbing, stooping or crouching, kneeling, crawling, reaching, pushing, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing. Normal attention with clarity of vision at 20 inches or less as well as 20 feet or more, depth perception and the ability to adjust eye to bring object into sharp focus, all required. Moderate to heavy physical demand with regular lifting of light (1 to 25 lbs.) items and lifting of average to heavy items (25lbs. to over 60 lbs.) by hand or with mechanical assistance.Environmental/Atmospheric Conditions: Environmental and atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.Subject to both inside and outside working conditions, with exposure to noise sufficient to make it necessary to shout, and with some exposure to a variety of physical hazards such as proximity to electrical current and/or moving mechanical parts, as well as adverse atmospheric conditions, but with none present to the extent of being disagreeable.EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
