Position Overview:The Academy is seeking a part time or full-time Spanish teacher committed to delivering a high level, engaging curriculum so that students develop strong foundational language skills that support their continued language acquisition in high school and beyond.Who We Are:The Academy serves a diverse student population and has gained an excellent reputation for preparing students both academically and socially emotionally for high school and beyond. Our Mission: The Academy of Alameda is an equity-centered public school that equips ALL students with the critical thinking skills, knowledge, mindset, and personal qualities so that they are on track for success in college and are inspired to affect change in their communities.An Ideal Candidate Will:Be committed to promoting social justice through education:Believes that all students can be successful at high levels and that a student's academic success should not be determined by their race or ethnicity, socio-economic status, gender, sexual preference etc.Have a student-focused lens and continually seek to build strong relationships with students and their familiesSee the value in and thus have a strong desire to collaborate deeply with other teachers, and supporting staff membersBe a successful teacher - strong in subject area, equity-centered, reflective, and continually wants to improve his/her practice to impact student learningWork hard but also wants to have funQualifications:Fluently speak, read, and write in SpanishSingle Subject Credential, Internship credential, or Similar Certification RequiredPreferred qualifications, but not necessary:Native Spanish speakerClear credential2 or more years Teaching ExperienceClassroom Experience and Strong Classroom ManagementResponsibilities:Teach 4 sections of Middle School Spanish (6 - 8)Teach 1 section of Middle School literacy program through teaching (6 -8)Support ELPAC testing and planning with ES/MS Academic DeanCollaborate with Middle School electives teachers in planning and implementing AoA's 6th grade elective wheel.Lead one advisory section that helps supports students with social emotional learning and executive functioning skills and assume roles and responsibilities as an advisorAttend weekly professional development Compensation and Benefits: Compensation is competitive and based on experience.
