Salary : $67,619.58 - $92,158.56 AnnuallyLocation : Storey County Public Works, NVJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: 202400129Department: Public WorksDivision: Building and GroundsOpening Date: 01/27/2026Closing Date: Continuous Job Summary Under general direction, performs and oversees a wide variety of highly skilled maintenance, repair, and construction duties in the upkeep of county buildings, facilities, equipment, and grounds. Serves as a working lead, providing day-to-day guidance, scheduling, and technical expertise to Facilities Maintenance Worker staff. Assists the Buildings and Grounds Manager in planning projects, estimating materials and costs, and ensuring work meets established standards, codes, and safety requirements. Distinguishing Characteristics This is the lead/working-supervisor level in the facilities maintenance series. It is distinguished from Facilities Maintenance Worker III by the responsibility for providing ongoing leadership to a maintenance crew, assisting with budget preparation, and performing limited administrative functions in addition to advanced technical work. It is distinguished from the Buildings and Grounds Manager by the absence of full program administration, budget authority, and overall department management. This classification is deemed safety sensitive. Licensing, Education, & Other Requirements Any combination of training, education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities. A typical way to gain the required knowledge and ability is:High school diploma or equivalent; andFive (5) years of increasingly responsible facilities maintenance experience,At least two (2) years performing advanced trade work and/or lead responsibilities.An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that could provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.Must successfully pass a criminal background investigation.Military experience applicable to the duties of this position may be preferred.All employees in this classification are subject to drug and alcohol testing as outlined in Storey County Policy 206A: Drug Alcohol Testing for Safety Sensitive Positions.Required Certifications, Licenses and Registration:Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada Driver License appropriate for vehicles and other operated equipment.Must possess and maintain forklift certification within 90 days of hire.Must possess and maintain OSHA 30 certification immediately upon hire and before entering construction site.Must possess and maintain Flagger and Work Zone safety certification within (6) six months of hire.Must possess and maintain Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification within 12 months of hire.Must possess county sponsored (e.g., Pool Pact) Essential Management Skills certificate within 12 months of hire. Leads and participates in advanced maintenance, repair, and construction of county facilities, including complex carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical systems.Plans, assigns, and reviews daily work of Facilities Maintenance Worker I-III staff; provides technical direction, training, and assistance to ensure quality, efficiency, and safety.Coordinates and monitors preventive maintenance schedules; recommends improvements to maintenance programs and procedures.Assists and guides the Facilities Manager with project planning, cost estimating, material requisition, and contractor oversight.Maintains records of work performed, materials used, and costs; prepares reports and recommends budget needs for equipment and supplies.Operates and maintains a variety of power tools, specialized equipment, and vehicles.Operates a motor vehicle for short and long distances.Serves as acting Facilities Manager in the Manager's absence, making routine operational decisions and addressing urgent maintenance needs.Responds to emergency maintenance requests and participates in after-hours callouts.Responds to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provides information within the area of assignment; helps supervisor prepare to resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.Observes safe working practices, including maintaining storage and working areas in a safe and orderly condition; reports the need for maintenance or repair of facilities to the appropriate supervisor; corrects or reports any fire or safety hazards; places safety barriers in public areas; maintains equipment, materials and supplies in proper condition.Ensures adherence to building, electrical, and plumbing codes, OSHA regulations, and county safety policies.Operates and maintains a variety of vehicles, power tools, and specialized equipment.We offer a complete benefits package to full-time employees including 100% employer-paid Nevada PERS retirement; 100% paid employee medical, dental and vision; 100% paid family medical, dental, and vision; HSA employer contribution plan, and PPO buy-up plan option; Nevada Deferred Compensation 457(b) retirement option; 3 weeks paid vacation (per accrual); 120 hours paid sick leave per year; paid holidays.To learn more details, click to visit our benefits page
