Job Description

WHO ARE WE? Bordering Denver to the south, the City of Englewood is a vibrant city of over 34,000 residents and over 2,100 businesses. It is a tight-knit community with a small city atmosphere yet has all of the benefits associated with the larger Denver metropolitan area. The city is served by light rail and bus transit systems linking the community to downtown Denver and other locations, including Denver International Airport. The city owns a golf course, water park, 17 programmed parks and two recreation facilities. Over 700 full-time, part-time and seasonal employees work for the city, which is a full-service city, providing policing, water, sewer, and other services to the community. Voters elect a seven-member City Council which sets policies, makes laws (ordinance) and approves the city's budget. The Council appoints a City Attorney and a City Manager, who is responsible for managing the day to day aspects of the city's departments. Englewood has a detailed, visionary strategic plan that runs through 2026 with several exciting initiatives and programs, including: * Implementing of a sustainability program including the implementation of a low-waste event policy; creation of a "Green Team" to engage employees in sustainability efforts; and developing and implementing an electric vehicle plan; * Encouraging community well-being for all, including programs for teens and tweens, active and robust library programming, and making programs at the Golf Course and other programs as accessible as possible; * Providing job training programs and initiatives to encourage vibrant business areas across the city, including the establishment of unique programs designed, through job training, to assist people who are housing vulnerable and experiencing homelessness; and * Developing and implementing strategies to seek out funding sources to improve our roads, water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure. WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING * Hands-on approach to learning and applying your degree * Learn more about municipal government/public sector * Chance to network with multiple departments and interns across the city * Completing a collaborative project with the 2026 interns WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR * Currently enrolled and pursuing a bachelor's or master's Degree * Available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week during the summer (May/June through August/September) may include evenings, holidays and weekends. * Strong verbal and written communication skills * Ability to prioritize based on opportunities and effectively multitask * Experience using Microsoft Office * Detail-oriented mindset * Quick learner * Problem-solver * Creativity and initiative are important skills and you will be expected to use these skills in contributing to new program ideas and improving existing programs. * An interest in providing support to special events DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW The Parks, Recreation, Library and Golf Department provides a multitude of opportunities for the public to enjoy a diverse park system, two recreation centers, a water park, a golf course, library activities and over 25 special events across the city. The department also operates a seasonal animal farm and a 28-passenger mini-train in Belleview Park. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS Reports to: PRLG Marketing Manager Direct Reports: None DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The listed examples of work are not intended to be all-inclusive. Essential Duties & Responsibilities * Follows objectives as set by the Intern Supervisor. * Provide a high standard of customer service. * Cross-trains with other areas of the department. * Assist with the coordination and administration of PRLG programs and initiatives. * Provides staff support related to projects and programs within the assigned scope. Including- fitness, youth programs, aquatics, adult programs, art, golf, educational trips, library, Farm and Train, and current department offerings. * Assist with the coordination and implementation of community event logistics from beginning to end, such as event setups, organizing vendors, vendor contracts, and event entertainment. Problem-solving and directing. * Attend special events to promote the department. (ex: Neighborhood Nights) * Solicits volunteers to assist at department events. * Collaborate with the all PRLG division to meet marketing goals related to effective event marketing and promotion. Other Duties & Responsibilities * Assists with special projects, employee activities or programs. * Performs other duties as assigned and required. PREPARATION AND TRAINING Education * Intern I- High school diploma or GED plus one year of undergraduate studies toward completion of a bachelor's degree in a related field. * Intern II- Bachelor's degree plus one year of experience in specific department or progress toward completion of a master's degree in a related field Certifications and/or Licensures * None Required Driver's License * Yes KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge * Knowledge of the policies, procedures and goals of the City of Englewood and the department; experience in the use of office equipment; principles and practices of programming. Skills and Abilities * Skills in the use of Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel Programs * Skill in the use of standard office software * Ability to understand and interpret various forms of information * Ability to draft documents * Ability to read, interpret and clearly explain policies to a variety of constituents * Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, elected officials, boards and commissions, other jurisdictions and members of the general public. * Ability to listen well and communicate effectively orally and in writing with various audiences. HOURLY PAY RANGE * Intern I: $18.00/hour * Intern II: $22.00/Hourly Rate WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in a standard office environment, requiring sitting and occasional light lifting (up to 15 lbs.). Work is performed outside at parks and facilities in varying degrees of weather and conditions. Work is performed at the front desk, guest service operations, with sitting or standing. The job requires visual and physical capabilities to perform work on computers and associated equipment for varying periods. APPLICATION DEADLINE Open until filled.
