Landscape -Maintenance Technician, full-time Salary Depends on Qualifications Location NC, NC Job Type Full Time Staff Job Number 00325 Department Operations & Facilities Division Landscape Maintenance Opening Date 01/27/2026 * Description * Benefits * Questions Carteret Community College (Morehead City, NC) is accepting applications for a full-time Landscape-Maintenance Technician. The Landscape-Maintenance Technician will work alongside experienced team members to perform daily landscaping duties, general grounds upkeep, and general maintenance for the College. Salary commensurate with experience. Benefits include pension (vested in 5 years), paid vacation leave, sick leave, and holidays; low-cost health insurance. Duties include: * Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Operations and Facilities, this position performs landscape maintenance duties as directed, including planting a wide variety of nursery stock, mowing, trimming, edging, blowing, installing beds and mulch, leaf removal, prunes trees, trims bushes, removes weeds, excavating areas, and applies herbicides and pesticides as needed. Duties also include weeding and fertilizing to ensure proper lawn care practices. * Maintaining irrigation systems, including repair and maintenance. * Maintains and repairs small engine equipment. * Operating and maintaining landscaping equipment, including mowers, tractors, blowers, trimmers, and other tools. * Removal of trash and debris from the lawn, emptying designated trash, and ash receptacles. * Maintains hard and permeable driving and parking surfaces. * Completes landscape maintenance work orders & preventative maintenance as assigned. * Ensures workplace safety and sound environmental practices. * Performs in storm preparedness and participates in cleanup of debris, snow, and ice removal. * Attend monthly departmental meetings, assigned committee meetings, and complete annual professional development requirements. * Work collaboratively as part of the Operations and Facilities team and participate in all departmental functions and events- such as set up, break down, and moving furniture. * Assist maintenance in the winter months to perform various duties, such as replacing light bulbs, air filters, ceiling tiles, etc. * Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Operations and Facilities Minimum Qualifications: Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Experience: One to two years' experience desired in groundskeeping and general maintenance. Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of the horticulture principles and practices applicable to landscaping, maintenance, and upkeep of grounds, flowers, and shrubs. Knowledge of grounds maintenance and equipment repair associated with landscape maintenance. Physical Demands: The employee is regularly required to use power tools and hand tools. Frequently required to walk, stand, use arms and legs, fingers and hands, climb ladders, and crawl in small, confined spaces. Ability to exert, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and work in elevated locations up to 50 feet. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, peripheral and color vision. Depth perception and ability to focus. License requirement: Valid NC driver's license. Possess or have the ability to acquire a NC pesticides license within the first 12 months of employment. Forklift certification desired. Working Conditions and Environment: Exposure to outside weather conditions, noise, vibration, airborne particles, fumes, moving mechanical parts and will require the use of personal protective equipment where applicable. Some evening or weekend work may be required. Carteret Community College is an E-verify/EOE employer. Job offers are conditional upon a satisfactory background check. Benefits available to full-time employees include: * The best-funded pension plan/retirement system in the nation according to Moody's Investor Service; the employee is required to contribute 6% of their monthly gross pay to this benefit; the College contributes an additional amount. * Twelve (12) paid holiday days each year (11, if a 10-month faculty member) * Twelve (12) sick days per year (10, if a 10-mont faculty member) which is cumulative indefinitely. Unused accrued sick leave can be converted to service credit for retirement * Staff receive fourteen (14) vacation days per year which increases as the length of service increases and accumulates year-to-year. Faculty do not receive vacation leave, rather, they have. on average, 20 scheduled, paid non-instructional days built into the academic calendar. * Faculty receive paid breaks throughout the academic year, including a Spring Break, Fall Break, and holiday break in December * Longevity pay yearly (based on length of service beginning 10 years and up) * Optional 401K/457 plans * Low-cost State Health Plan - employee only monthly premium for the Standard (70/30) Plan is based on salary band, and ranges from $35 per month to $80 per month. * Low-cost optional insurance such as vision and dental insurance * Employee Assistance Program Temporary and adjunct/part-time employees do not receive benefits. 01 Why are you interested in working at Carteret Community College? 02 How did you learn about this opportunity?
