Field Service Engineer IIIThe Field Service Engineer III serves as a trusted technical expert, working directly at customer sites to design, refine, and implement the most effective methods for integrating advanced material-handling systems into their operations. This role delivers high-level on-site support, including installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, repairs, complex PLC program modifications, and moderate PLC code development. The engineer also performs preventative maintenance, leads training for both customer personnel and junior engineers, conducts system audits, and executes retrofit initiatives to enhance equipment performance.Beyond core responsibilities, the Field Service Engineer III manages both planned and emergency service calls involving mechanical, electrical, and controls-related issues. The role also supports equipment installations and coordinates subcontractor activities to ensure seamless project execution.Key ResponsibilitiesExecute planned and emergency service calls, equipment rebuilds, system audits, and preventive maintenance activities.Prepare tools, review technical drawings, and plan service tasks in advance.Complete service reports, expense documentation, preventive maintenance records, and audit summaries.Research part numbers and technical information before and during service calls.Verify retrofit and rebuild parts orders for accuracy.Communicate with customers regarding system performance, issues, and recommended improvements.Review scopes of work (SOWs), budgets, and manpower requirements for upcoming service engagements.Walk through customer systems to assess performance and identify improvement opportunities.Train customer maintenance teams and mentor lower-level engineers.Submit warranty requests and documentation.Lead or assist with equipment rebuilds in the field.Diagnose mechanical and controls-related programming issues.Collaborate with Engineering and Parts teams to resolve field issues and support system-level projects.Coordinate with fellow engineers, management, and technical support to develop solutions.Support mechanical-related technical support calls.Recommend system upgrades and new products to improve customer efficiency.Provide field training to other Customer Service Engineers.Perform additional duties as assigned.Travel up to 90 percent (domestic and international) may be required.
