Join our team today!Position OverviewThe Town of Avon, Colorado, is accepting applications for an Engineer!This posting is open to candidates qualified for either the Engineer or Senior Engineer level. Applicants will be considered for the level that best aligns with their experience, skillset, and professional background.Both roles are responsible for supporting the Town's engineering, infrastructure, and construction oversight functions. The Engineer performs technical, administrative, and project-level work, while the Senior Engineer serves as a higher-level technical expert and leader engaged in complex engineering review, advanced project management, and participation in divisional leadership initiatives. Performs technical review of subdivision sketch plans, preliminary plans, and final plats for conformance with standardsProvides technical assistance to other departments,Review permit applications for work within Public Rights-of-Way and monitor construction for conformance with Permit conditions.Monitor and implement innovation in construction techniques, including networking with peers in the industry to employ state-of-the-art practices in project bidding, procuring, and constructionAdministers consultant contracts, including preparing requests for proposals, reviewing and interviewing respondents, negotiating scope of work and contract terms, and overseeing contract performanceCoordinates, cooperates, and collaborates with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) on transportation projects and regional groupsProvides access to and assists with public record requests related to the Engineering DivisionEssential Functions - Senior EngineerProvides technical review of proposed site development plans for conformance with grading, drainage, and other site design criteria as set forth in the Avon Municipal Code and other applicable codesProvides technical review of development applications, including preliminary plan and final plat subdivision review, condominium review, retaining walls, driveway access, road access, transportation improvements, improvements to public right-of-ways, and other public infrastructure and public facilitiesProvides engineering technical assistance and support to other DepartmentsProvides technical assistance in the review of permit applications for work within Public Rights-of-Way and monitoring of construction for conformance with Public Right-of-Way Permit conditionsMonitor and implement innovation in construction techniques, including networking with peers in the industry to employ state-of-the-art practices in project bidding, procuring, and constructionAssists in the preparation of annual Capital Improvement and Department budgetsAdministers consultant contracts, including preparing requests for proposals, reviewing and interviewing respondents, negotiating the scope of work and contract terms, and overseeing contract performanceMay be assigned duties to coordinate, cooperate, and collaborate with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) on transportation projects and regional groupsProvides access to and assists with public record requests related to the Engineering DivisionQualifications and RequirementsKnowledge of municipal engineering, including street, drainage, site development, subdivision, and public-infrastructure projects Experience with Request for Proposals (RFPs) requirements and processes for professional services and contracts and agreements Knowledge of adopted building codes, mechanical and lighting systems Knowledge of project management (Senior Engineer only)Knowledge of principles and practices of personnel management and supervision, and budget preparationAbility to evaluate construction activities and processes for conformance with contract documents Ability to read and interpret building plans and specifications, draw plans, and write specifications and cost estimates for building repairs and minor building construction workAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, staff, management, staff, and the public Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in oral and written form. Spanish is considered a plusAbility to represent the Town of Avon in the highest professional manner at all times and ability to interact with co-workers in a positive and respectful manner that reflects Avon's culture of teamworkAbility to operate a Town vehicle safely and legally Requires possession of a Colorado driver's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hireEducation & ExperienceEngineer - Education & ExperienceBachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or related field from an accredited engineering school is preferred.Registration as a Professional Engineer in Colorado is preferred.Senior Engineer - Education & ExperienceBachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or related degree from an accredited engineering school is required.Must be registered as a Professional Engineer in Colorado is required.Minimum of 10 years general civil engineering experience.Minimum of 5 years of engineering work with streets, roads, drainage, site development, subdivisions, and construction observation/contract administration experience.The Town reserves the right to suspend or extend the posting deadline based on receipt of qualified candidates.
