Title: Special Education CoordinatorReports To: PrincipalCompensation: $70,000 - $75,000 per year, plus performance-based bonusFLSA Classification: ExemptCalendar: 11-Month Our School Houston Classical Charter School ("Houston Classical") was chartered by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to open in Houston in August 2020, beginning with kindergarten and first grade. The school has an accomplished and committed Board, which includes a founding Board and a Head of School. We are looking for experienced, dedicated, and motivated individuals who are excited by the challenge of being part of a new school. Houston Classical is founded on the idea that scholars can learn at a high level, notwithstanding their zip code or background.The Mission of Houston ClassicalHouston Classical's mission is to ensure all scholars PreK-8 are successful through a classical approach, rigorous academics, character development, and structured environment to ensure success in high school, college and in life. The RoleThe Special Education Coordinator is a key member of the leadership team, responsible for overseeing special education services. This role includes ensuring compliance, supporting instructional quality, and providing services to scholars with diverse learning needs. The ideal candidate will be an experienced special educator and leader, committed to delivering high-quality, mission-aligned support for all scholars.Essential Job Duties & ResponsibilitiesInstructional Oversight & ComplianceManage and ensure compliance of all IEPs and Section 504 Plans across grade levelsMonitor delivery of required services and ensure fidelity to mandated accommodations and modificationsOversee and facilitate all ARD meetings, maintaining compliance with TEA guidelinesSupport teachers in implementing effective differentiation and intervention strategiesEnsure scholars with disabilities receive rigorous instruction and appropriate support to promote academic and social-emotional growthSupervise and support teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providersConduct regular classroom visits across campuses to observe implementation and provide actionable feedbackPlan and lead professional development for teaching staff related to special education best practicesMaintain strong relationships with the families of scholars receiving special education servicesLead parent-facing workshops or trainings throughout the school yearServe as the primary liaison between the school and the Committee on Special EducationCollaborate with teachers on behavior management plans and strategiesMeet regularly with teachers experiencing behavioral challenges in their classroomsMonitor and support the implementation of behavior modification programsParticipate in weekly leadership team meetings to address school-wide special education issuesMeet weekly for check-ins with the Director of Special EducationAdvise Principals and Assistant Principals on data-driven decisions and instructional planning related to special educationServe as an advocate for high-quality special education within the school design QualificationsBachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Educational Leadership, or a related field preferred.Texas Education Agency SBEC Certification in Special Education (required)Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive, trusting relationships with scholars, staff, and familiesDemonstrated high academic results as a teacher and/or leader "Whatever it takes" mindset, with a strong focus on achieving results and overcoming challenges to ensure scholar successSelf-starter with the ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environmentHighly organized and efficient in managing tasks, resources, and time to meet school goalsConsistently models professionalism, integrity, and ethical behavior in all interactions
