Design critical power grid infrastructureWork on high-voltage substation projects (69kV-230kV)About Our ClientA growing utilities organization in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Substation Designer to support the design and development of transmission and distribution substation projects. This role will work closely with engineers and project managers to produce detailed design drawings, layouts, and construction packages for high-voltage substations.This position supports new substation construction, expansions, and upgrades across the utility grid.Job DescriptionDevelop substation physical design drawings including plan views, elevations, grounding plans, and equipment layoutsProduce detailed construction drawings and design packages for utility substation projectsSupport design efforts for distribution and transmission voltage levels ranging from 15 kV to 230 kVAssist with the layout and design of 69 kV, 115 kV, 138 kV, and 230 kV substationsCreate drawings for switchyards, bus configurations, and equipment placementDevelop foundation layouts, conduit plans, and grounding systemsCoordinate with engineers, protection & controls teams, and project managers to ensure design accuracyReview and incorporate utility standards and specifications into project designsSupport updates to existing substations including equipment replacements, expansions, and modernization projectsTypical ProjectsGreenfield substation designSubstation expansions and upgradesTransformer installations and replacementsBreaker replacements and relay upgradesSwitchyard and bus modificationsProtection & control upgradesMPI does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, marital status, or based on an individual's status in any group or class protected by applicable federal, state or local law.
