Assist irrigation foreman in the irrigation maintenance of City irrigation systems. Grounds maintenance work is also performed. Will uses considerable discretion in determining proper work methods under the general supervision of a supervisor. Job Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are normal for this position. Assists skilled workers in the performance of maintenance, repairs, and installation of irrigation systems. Performs a variety of general maintenance duties to include cutting plumbing pipes, assembling risers, digging trenches, replacing controllers, repairing pipe breaks, repairing and replacing valves, spray heads, drip tubing, and other irrigation system components. Performs preventative maintenance, detects problems and makes system operator repairs. Responds as required to emergencies such as hurricanes and other disasters. Performs and assists with the preparation for special events. Completes written activity summaries. Maintains records.Cleans equipment and makes minor repairs. Maintains equipment inventory. Operates tools and equipment such as hand tools, power tools, generator and pressure cleaner. Oversees the work of Maintenance Workers and completes documentation through work orders. Performs other related tasks as required. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Two (2) years of experience maintaining and repairing irrigation systems. Valid Florida Driver's license and Class B CDL license. The CDL Class B requirement may be waived for up to 120 days at the discretion of the Department Head; but must be obtained within 120 days of hire date. BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: 5 or 10 work days for the death of a family member in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement and the City's Personnel Rules & Regulations.MEDICAL INSURANCE: Fully paid by the City (HMO Select). Coverage becomes effective 1st of month following 30 days.
