The successful candidate will be responsible for building a competitive, student-centered program that emphasizes academic success, character development, and athletic excellence while ensuring alignment and continuity across all grade levels.Primary ResponsibilitiesServe as Head Coach for the Varsity Boys Basketball program.Provide leadership, vision, and oversight for the entire K 12 boys basketball pipeline, including collaboration with middle school and youth coaches.Develop and implement a consistent basketball philosophy, system, and player development plan across all levels.Plan, organize, and conduct practices, games, and offseason programming in compliance with district, MHSAA, and conference regulations.Hire, supervise, mentor, and evaluate assistant and sub-varsity coaching staff.Foster a positive team culture emphasizing sportsmanship, accountability, discipline, and respect.Support and monitor student-athletes' academic progress and eligibility.Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents/guardians, staff, and administration.Coordinate scheduling, equipment, inventory, and program needs with the Athletic Department.Actively promote the basketball program within the school and community.Ensure player safety, proper supervision, and adherence to district policies at all times.QualificationsPrior high school or collegiate coaching experience is preferred.Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop student-athletes.Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, strategy, and player development.Experience working within a K 12 or program-wide model is strongly preferred.Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.Commitment to equity, inclusion, and positive youth development.Ability to meet all district and MHSAA coaching requirements, including background check, CPR/First Aid certification, and required coaching credentials.Preferred AttributesProven success in program building or program turnaround.Strong ties to or willingness to engage with the Ypsilanti community.Ability to develop long-term sustainability and feeder alignment.CompensationCompensation is stipend-based and aligned with the Ypsilanti Community Schools coaching contract.Application ProcessInterested candidates should submit:Letter of interestCoaching r sumProfessional referencesApplications will be reviewed until the position is filled.Ypsilanti Community Schools is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
