About National Academy For State Health PolicyThe National Academy for State Health Policy is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization of, by, and for state policymakers, committed to developing and advancing health policy innovations and solutions. At NASHP, we engage state leaders to solve problems and share best practices, conduct policy analyses and research, leverage state expertise to develop model policies, disseminate information on state policies and programs, and provide technical assistance to states. We have an immediate opening for a Policy Associate on the Coverage, Cost and Value (CCV) team. Position OverviewNASHP's Coverage, Cost and Value (CCV) Policy Associate will support states working to lower hospital and health system costs, improve health care affordability, and advance payment and delivery system reforms such as hospital global budgets. This work involves analyzing state legislation and administrative activity, facilitating state-to-state convenings, providing technical assistance, and tracking implementation of new laws. Experience analyzing state health policy is required; prior work on health care costs or payment reform is preferred. Primary ResponsibilitiesAs a Policy Associate, you will be responsible for: Tracking, researching, analyzing, and summarizing state and federal policy, legislation, rules and regulations that impact state health cost policyProviding technical assistance to state officials on a variety of topicsPlanning, researching, and writing blogs, briefs, reports, and other publicationsAssisting in the development of grant proposals and reports to fundersFacilitating state-to-state learning and exchange using multiple strategies, both virtual and in-personWorking with both internal and external stakeholders at the state and national level, effectively communicating information on trends and emerging issues in health policyAssisting in staffing and support of NASHP's policy committees and participating in the planning and implementation of NASHP's annual conferenceRepresenting NASHP and relevant project work at meetings and conferencesConducting qualitative policy research and analysisContributing to project development and managementWorking collaboratively with colleagues across the organization to provide technical assistance to state health policy officialsWriting policy briefs and other related resources aimed at a broad policy audienceOther duties as necessaryCore Competencies and RequirementsThe ideal candidate will have the following attributes: Is organized and detail-oriented, and able to manage a complex workload comprised of multiple projectsIs a skilled communicator with strong writing and analytic skillsDemonstrated understanding of state health policy and how ideas can be translated into practical policy solutions, including understanding the levers available to states to address costs, as well as health coverage financingUnderstands levers available to states to address disparities, as well as social drivers of healthHas strong analytic and qualitative research skillsInterest in leveraging health care cost data to inform state policymakingEducation and Experience:At least 3 years of relevant work experienceMaster's degree in public policy, law, public health, or related areas, or equivalent of combination of education and experiencePhysical RequirementsProlonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Some travel will be required. Working at NASHPNASHP offers a flexible work schedule. We are currently operating in a hybrid work arrangement, with one to two days in the office each week, depending on distance from our Washington, DC office. Compensation and BenefitsThe salary range for this position is $70,159 - $87,000.
