We specialize in providing signs and graphics and a range of services to help make our customers' projects successful. Duncan-Parnell is growing and looking to add a Technical Designer to our Signs and Graphics team in either our Charlotte NC, Raleigh NC or North Charleston, SC office. This role is a critical position supporting both operations and customers in our Signs & Graphics division. Job Summary The Technical Designer is responsible for managing technical and production design aspects of signage projects from concept through fabrication. This includes support for ADA signage, Sign Agent projects, and other specialized or custom signs requiring precision and construction detail. The ideal candidate will have experience in sign manufacturing, construction, or architectural environments and a strong understanding of materials, production methods, and technical design. This is not a purely graphic design role. While creative input is welcomed, the focus is on technical execution and production feasibility.Essential Functions and Duties Shop Drawing Development, focusing on fabrication-ready designFamiliarize with and interpret scope of work documents, including architectural plans, elevations, and sign location plans to ensure design accuracy and code complianceApply knowledge of sign fabrication processes to specify appropriate materials, substrates, and construction methods for each signage applicationCollaborate with the sales team and clients to develop technically accurate designs for incoming projectsEmphasis on complex, custom, and detail-oriented signage (e.g., ADA packages, fabricated & illuminated signs)Lead coordination and execution of Sign Agent and ADA signage workflowsCoordinate with outsourced vendors, gather quote information, and submit ordersPerform site surveys and field measurements as neededHandle phone and email inquiries regarding job status, quotes, and project updatesFollow ordering and PO procedures with accuracyCommunicate install schedule internally and with clientsMaintain consistent communication with team, in-office and on-siteMaintain and update Job Center and track project time by branch/projectContribute to stretch assignments (e.g., ADA estimating/pricing, custom orders, process improvements)Serve as a liaison for technical projects, focusing on organization, documentation, and client needsActively contribute to a positive team culture in coordination with the Production Manager & Operations DirectorAdditional tasks as assignedRequirements Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience Proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, Sign Agent & CAD Tools is a plusCompetent in Microsoft Office products, basic computer skillsExcellent verbal and written communication skills CompetenciesStrong work ethicAbility to work in a fast-paced environmentAble to multi-task/simultaneously work on multiple projectsOrganized with meticulous attention to detail & accuracyExecute/Complete assignments in a time sensitive mannerTeam Player - works well independently and with coworkers BenefitsMedical, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability insurance availableMedical and dependent care FSA or HSA401(k) Retirement PlanPTO and HolidaysPaid Parental Leave The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees in this position.
