Project Engineer - Capital Improvement Initiatives We are seeking an experienced, hands‑on Project Engineer to lead major capital improvement initiatives across a chemical manufacturing campus in the St. Louis area. This is a high‑impact role responsible for driving complex plant upgrades-from construction planning to equipment installation to full operational integration. For the right candidate, this position offers a clear path to advance into a Manager of Maintenance & Engineering role upon successful execution of key projects. What You'll DoLead Major Capital Projects + Serve as the on‑site project manager for all plant improvement and expansion initiatives. + Oversee installation of major process equipment, including: + High‑pressure reactors + Hot oil heating systems + Chillers and cooling towers + Bulk material handling and automation systems + Manage construction contractors, equipment vendors, and project timelines to ensure safe, on‑time, and on‑budget execution. Drive Engineering Excellence + Develop a deep understanding of plant layout, operational flow, and process requirements to ensure seamless integration of new systems. + Coordinate closely with Operations, Maintenance, and EH&S to minimize downtime and maintain compliance throughout all construction activities. + Track equipment lead times, manage order status, and maintain project visibility for leadership. Ensure Safe & Compliant Installations + Oversee adherence to site safety protocols, including lockout/tagout, machine guarding, and construction best practices. + Provide engineering oversight during equipment commissioning, testing, and start-up. Transition into Leadership + Upon completion of capital initiatives, assume responsibility for leading both the Maintenance and Engineering departments. What You BringRequired Skills & Experience + Strong Chemical Engineering background with the ability to apply process knowledge to equipment installation and integration. + Hands-on experience installing reactors, utilities, or process systems in a chemical manufacturing environment. + Proven project management experience supporting major capital or construction efforts. + Solid understanding of safety concepts and construction environment requirements, including LOTO. Preferred Skills + Experience with high-pressure systems, reactors, and process utilities. + Ability to manage change orders, construction scope shifts, and real‑time project challenges. + Proficiency in coordinating multiple vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders. Work Environment This position operates in both active construction zones and chemical manufacturing areas. Familiarity with industrial safety protocols-including LOTO and machine guarding-is essential for success in this role. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Saint Louis, MO.
