The Engineer will be self-motivated, organized and creative with the ability to multi-task. This individual must be able to work as a productive and engaged team member, with a strong emphasis on safety, sustainability, and innovation, in a fast-paced environment. Strong initiative and follow-through are essential for this job.Core ResponsibilitiesPerform a wide array of design functions within the mechanical-HVAC and process piping disciplines, including equipment selections, system sizing, load calculations, product and material specifications, and design layouts for mechanical and process piping systems. Lead equipment hookup "tool installation" design, including the layout of toolsets, mechanical and piping utility design, and creation of specialized drawings such as airflow diagrams, process flow diagrams, and P&IDs.Conceptualize and optimize layouts of tool(s) and supporting infrastructure with multiple options as may be desired by Client.Field survey of existing MEP systems to ensure accurate and optimized solutions forProcess piping designs will typically include house utilities such as compressed air, nitrogen, process cooling water, and vacuum. Occasionally more complex process utilities such as toxic gases, cryogenic or other liquid chemical distribution, high-purity water systems, wastewater systems, air scrubbers, and gas life safety systems will be required to be designed.Process mechanical design inclusive of industrial ventilation, exhaust systems, and laboratory HVAC.Coordinate electrical requirements for toolset and lab with electricalMay include coordination and supervision of the structural engineering design by outside consultants.May include assisting with the Permitting process and attendance at Fire/Hazmat inspections in field.Participate in the AlfaTech process piping / plumbing committee to continuously improve AlfaTech and client-specific standards for piping systems and associated controlPerform environmental health and safety code compliance analysis, calculations and reports. This may include laboratory chemical classification and inventory calculations based on SDS, IDLH & LEL calculations and participation in process hazard analyses. Perform submittal and shop drawing reviews; ensure accurate, timely responses to RFI's.Document changes and clarifications to scope, schedule, and budget; advise projectReview data and prepare recommendations, summaries, and cost estimates for consideration by senior engineers and/or managers.Write technical reports to document engineering analysis andAssist senior engineer(s) in reviewing design and development plans and/or costActs as a technical advisor to junior professional staff assigned to the project(s).Coordinate, support, and communicate with colleagues across disciplines and receive direction from project leads.Attends and is an active participant in the design and construction project teamProposes innovative solutions to designAbility to implement design in BIM and AutoCADMay serve as a field engineer during construction by performing site visits and preparing written reports of observations.Other duties asThis is meant to summarize the role's responsibilities and provide some information and structure. At AlfaTech we encourage our staff to think outside the box and explore opportunities beyond the confines of one's stated responsibilities to bring new thoughts, ideas, and innovations to our company.Ideal CandidateMinimum of 3 - 6 years of design experience for consulting engineering firm or design-buildExperience with Equipment Hookup Design within Advanced Technology, Green Technology, BioTech/Pharmaceutical, or similar technical market sectors such as Industrial, Healthcare, or Higher Education.Experience with mechanical / process piping design for fluids that are hazardous inKnowledgeable of building, energy, fire, life safety, process piping, industrial ventilation standards and codes, and construction/engineering Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment with multiple projectGeneral understanding of contract and constructionProficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, Revit, AutoCAD, and other engineering analysis and compliance software tools.Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or ChemicalProfessional Engineer (PE) Certification, Engineer in Training (EIT) Certificate or I.H. preferred.LEED AccreditationEssential RequirementsMS Suite of ProductsHighly proficient in Trace 700Strong knowledge of State and local Building CodesProficient in Revit, BIM 360, AutoCADEnergy Pro, comSalary RangeThis is a hybrid role. It is anticipated that the working days in the office will be done at our San Jose, CA office. The expected salary range for candidates who will work in San Jose, CA is $85,000 to $130,000 per year plus benefits. The final offer to our new team member will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the length, breadth, and depth of experience within the job and the industry, education, etc. ATCE is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
