The teacher fosters creativity, artistic expression, and an appreciation for the visual arts while supporting student growth in technical skills, critical thinking, and cultural understanding in alignment with Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) and division curriculum.Minimum QualificationsMust hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Art Education (PreK 12 or applicable elementary endorsement)Demonstrated knowledge of visual arts techniques, media, and art instructionStrong communication, organization, and classroom management skillsProficiency in instructional technology and digital toolsAbility to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learnersAbility to collaborate effectively with students, staff, and familiesEssential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPlan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned visual arts instruction to elementary studentsDevelop lesson plans that incorporate a variety of art media, techniques, and processesCreate and maintain a classroom environment that encourages creativity, respect, and student engagementInstruct students in drawing, painting, sculpture, design, and other visual art formsIntroduce students to art history, cultural influences, and appreciation of diverse artists and stylesDifferentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners, including students with disabilities and English learnersAssess student progress using a variety of methods including observation, performance-based assessments, and portfoliosMaintain accurate and complete student records and documentation as required by division and state guidelinesEstablish and maintain clear expectations for student behavior and classroom proceduresEnsure safe and proper use of art materials, tools, and equipmentOrganize and maintain art supplies and instructional resourcesIntegrate instructional technology when appropriate to enhance student learningCollaborate with classroom teachers to support cross-curricular connectionsCommunicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress and classroom activitiesDisplay and showcase student artwork within the school and at school-sponsored eventsParticipate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school improvement activitiesServe as a positive role model for students and demonstrate professional and respectful conduct at all timesMaintain confidentiality in accordance with applicable laws and school division policiesPerform other duties as assigned by the principal or designeePhysical RequirementsAbility to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach frequentlyAbility to lift and carry materials and supplies up to approximately 25 poundsManual dexterity to demonstrate art techniques and handle materialsAbility to communicate effectively in person and maintain supervision of studentsWorking Conditions / EnvironmentWork performed primarily in a classroom/art room settingRegular interaction with students, staff, and familiesAbility to multitask, adapt to changing instructional needs, and work with minimal supervisionMay require occasional attendance at evening events such as open house or student art showcasesEvaluationPerformance will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations governing personnel evaluation.Equal Employment Opportunity StatementThe Charles City County School Board is an equal opportunity employer.
