Job Summary/ Objective:A Heavy Equipment Operator's primary responsibility is to complete assigned tasks safely and accurately using equipment.Essential Functions:• Loading and unloading isotanks from chassis used to transport• Inspecting equipment before and after use to ensure it's in good working order• Driving or controlling heavy equipment to complete depot tasks Monitoring performance and adjusting settings as required to perform tasks correctly• Cleaning equipment after use and disposing of any collected scraps or waste• Ensures all safety, environmental and operational procedures are followed• Complies with federal, state, and local warehousing, material handling, and shipping requirements• Maintains the confidentiality of company, customer and personnel information• Performs all pre-operational checks to ensure equipment is fit for purpose. Reports any damage or defects as discovered• Other duties as assigned my managementEducation: • High School diploma or GED equivalentKnowledge/ Skills/ Abilities (Competencies):• Must have experience in operating a gas-powered sit down forklift• Must have experience operating a diesel powered forklift• 2 years experience working with forklift• Container loading experience (preferable)• Must be able to speak and read English• Must have experience moving large loads• Knowledge of safety protocols and the procedures used to control heavy equipment• Coordination to use all the controls on pieces of equipment• Possessing enough strength to operate the controls on heavy equipment• Ability to remain stationary in the seat or operating area of the equipment for prolonged periods• Problem-solving skills to diagnose issues with equipment• Strong oral communication skills to interact with other workers on the jobsite• Basic writing skills to accurately complete reports and other paperwork• Good noncommercial driver's license history to indicate a habit of safe drivingSupervisory Responsibility: NonePosition Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position, and days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. These hours are subject to change as business needs. Travel: 0%Work Environment: This job operates in a depot and outside environment. Weather conditions may vary. This role routinely uses standard office and computer equipment.Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.The employee will regularly and repetitively be required to talk, hear, sit, type, reach, and grasp in a typical depot environment. This position may require standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, or crouching. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
