There are several positions available throughout several different County departments for County Manager's Summer Student Academy for Career and Workforce Development for a current high school students and those who will graduate from high school in 2026. For information on available internships check the job site frequently at For more information on the operations and functions of each department click here: Essential Duties Henrico County Manager's Workforce & Career Development Academy Summer 2026 Internship Program: Henrico County offers paid summer internships across various departments for summer 2026. Eligibility: Current high school students or students graduating in 2026 Henrico County Public Schools students preferred Program Dates: Start: June 15, 2026 End: Before the start of the new school year Some departments may extend internships into the school year based on budget, need, and student performance/availability. Compensation & Schedule: $15.00 per hour Up to 29 hours per week Schedule based on department needs and student availability Students must provide their own transportation and coordinate schedules with their supervisor Qualifications: Interest in assigned department Relevant coursework, projects, hobbies, or activities Ability to work independently and in a team Follow instructions, work safely, and meet deadlines Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) Strong communication, organization, and attention to detail Familiarity with general office equipment What Students Will Gain: Hands-on experience in local government operations Exposure to a professional work environment Clear expectations and performance feedback Industry knowledge and practical skills Networking opportunities with government professionals Summer 2026 Internship Opportunities: We have the following opportunities that include a brief description of duties, number of positions, work hours, and location. 1. Circuit Court Clerk's Office (1): Assist Judicial Administrative Support staff with daily operations, including data entry, scanning and proofing, mail distribution, PowerPoint presentations, document preparation, legal research, and other administrative projects. Provides behind-the-scenes exposure to court operations. Hours: M-F, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Location: 4309 E. Parham Road, Henrico, VA 23228 2. Division of Police - Animal Protection Unit (Up to 3): Provide daily animal care, maintain habitats, respond to staff/public inquiries, monitor and document animal health and behavior, and assist the contracted veterinarian. Ideal for students in Veterinary Science or those with animal care experience. Must be self-motivated and able to work independently. Hours: Flexible, Monday-Saturday, 10:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Location: 10421 Woodman Road, Glen Allen, VA 23060 3. Extension Office (1): Assist with educational content development, outreach events, marketing, web design, and clerical duties. Gain insight into community programming and public service delivery. Hours: M-F, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (occasional hours outside this window for events) Location: 6800 Staples Mill Road, Henrico, VA 23228 4. General Services - Central Automotive Maintenance (2): Assist with routine fleet maintenance. Ideal for students enrolled in Diesel or Automotive programs. Steel-toe shoes required (uniforms will be provided). Hours: M-F, 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. or 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Locations: 10301 Woodman Road, Glen Allen, VA 23060 440 Dabbs House Road, Richmond, VA 23233 5. Information Technology (2): Support the IT Service Desk by troubleshooting computer issues, installing hardware/software, and assisting with upgrades. Excellent opportunity to develop technical and customer service skills. Hours: M-F, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Location: 4301 E. Parham Road, Henrico, VA 23228 6. Public Utilities - Water Reclamation Facility (Up to 2): You will learn how dirty water becomes clean. Depending on your studies and interest, in this role you will assist with Civil, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering projects and may assist in maintenance, and observation of instrumentation, or support laboratory operations (data collection and quality assurance). Hours: M-F, 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Location: 9101 WRVA Road, Henrico, VA 23231 7. Planning Department (1): This opportunity is for a highly motivated student who will gain hands-on experience in local government by assisting with document preparation, data entry, records management, scanning, filing, copying, maintaining records and responding to routine inquiries. Learn how the planning department supports community development while developing administrative and organizational skills. Hours: Flexible, M-F, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Location: 4301 E. Parham Road, Henrico, VA 23228 Minimum Qualifications Henrico County Manager's Workforce and Career Development Academy summer internship opportunities are for current high school students or those who will graduate from high school in 2026.Henrico County Public School students are preferred.
