Please visit our website at Position SummaryThe Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, and preventative maintenance of heavy-duty diesel trucks, trailers, construction equipment, and other diesel-powered vehicles and machinery. This role ensures all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with manufacturer specifications and regulatory standards.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform complete diagnostic testing on diesel engines, transmissions, drivetrains, hydraulic systems, air brakes, steering, suspension, electrical, and HVAC systems using computer diagnostic tools and traditional methods.Conduct preventative maintenance services including oil changes, filter replacements, tire services, brake inspections, and fluid services.Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and computerized system failures on heavy-duty trucks, and off-road equipment.Disassemble, overhaul, and reassemble diesel engines, transmissions, and major components as needed.Perform welding, fabrication, and custom repairs when required.Test drive or operate vehicles and equipment to verify repairs and ensure proper performance.Maintain accurate records of all services, repairs, parts used, and time spent using repair order systems.Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service bulletins.Adhere to all safety protocols, shop procedures, and environmental regulations (including proper handling of hazardous materials).Provide emergency field service and roadside repairs as assigned.Qualifications & RequirementsHigh school diploma or GED required; technical school or apprenticeship in diesel technology preferred.Minimum 3-5 years of verifiable experience as a heavy-duty diesel mechanic (truck, trailer, or heavy equipment).Strong knowledge of diesel engines, air brakes, hydraulics, and electronic control systems.Valid driver's license requiredAbility to read, write, and perform basic mathematics.Must own or be willing to acquire a basic set of hand and power tools.Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. occasionally and work in various weather conditions.Skills & CompetenciesExcellent mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.Proficiency with diagnostic software and scan tools.Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Good communication and customer service skills.Reliable, safety-conscious, and able to work flexible hours including occasional overtime or weekends.What We OfferThompson offers a variety of benefit plans and a company-matched 401K retirement planLife and Supplement LifeEmployee DiscountsPaid HolidaysCompany EventsTraining and DevelopmentCareer Advancement OpportunitiesTo learn more about this opportunity visit Thompson Pipe Group is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and we pride ourselves on recruiting, employing, training, compensating, and promoting regardless of race, religion, color, national origin, sex, disability, age, veteran status, and other protected status as required by applicable law.
